Everything you need to know about… Join us as we fly away to Neverland with Peter and the Darling children in this adaptation of Disney’s beloved animated film! Dear students and parents, My name is Keri Lesnik, and I am thrilled to return to Lincoln Hubbard School again this year to take on the role of director for this year’s musical, Peter Pan Jr. I am an arts educator, and I feel extremely fortunate to be able to combine my love of working with young people with my passion for theater on a daily basis. I am a graduate of NYU’s Educational Theater program, and I also hold an MA in Education from Bank Street College. I’m currently serving as a theater teacher and director in the Primary and Middle School divisions at Kent Place School in Summit. I have designed and implemented several arts-based curriculums including playwriting, Shakespeare, and acting technique. I also direct the mainstage productions for students in grades two through eight. I have an extensive teaching artist background and have worked as a director and choreographer with hundreds of students of all ages throughout the New York Metropolitan area. In addition, I have worked with NYC public school teachers as an arts consultant and have facilitated workshops for teachers on integrating arts into academic subject areas. I am a classically trained dancer, actor and vocalist and I also enjoy performing with several of New Jersey’s local theaters. I truly look forward to meeting your children and beginning this exciting project together. Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time. I can be reached at [email protected] Kind Regards, Keri Lesnik PETER PAN AUDITION INFORMATION Tuesday, November 1 AUDITION WORKSHOP- All fourth and fifth graders who are auditioning for a role in the show should attend this special workshop session after school and learn the required song and dance routine for the audition. It is very important to have a quiet activity such as homework or a book to read during those times. THE STORY: Wendy Darling loves to tell stories to her brothers, Michael and John. But when her father announces she must move out of the nursery, Peter Pan comes to visit the children and whisks them away to Neverland. Their journey introduces them to the Lost Boys, Mermaids, Indians and even the infamous pirate, Captain Hook! It’s Peter to the rescue when Wendy is taken captive by the dreaded captain, who has his own sinister plans in mind for our hero. THE CHARACTERS: PETER PAN: Is the boy who wouldn’t grown up. He is a hotheaded, adventurous adolescent who is also very caring. The actor who plays Peter Pan must be a natural leader. He has many lines to memorize and sings several solos. Peter Pan can be played by either a girl or a boy. TINKERBELL: is Peter Pan’s fairy. She is full-size and able to speak English when talking to the audience, but two inches tall and only able to speak through bells while in scenes. Tinkerbell must be a confident singer and actor, as she is the narrator of the story and has several solos. THE FAIRIES: are Tinkerbell’s friends whom she has roped into telling the story. Silvermist is sweet and supportive. Rosetta has southern charm. Fawn is spunky and fun. Iridessa is the most cautious and sensible. Lyria is delicate and inquisitive. Vidia can’t believe she has to put up with being in someone else’s story. The performers should be able to bring an individual personality to their character and be comfortable with singing harmony. They must all be strong dancers. WENDY: is the eldest Darling child and a gifted storyteller. She needs to be a mature performer who isn’t afraid of showing emotion. Wendy has several vocal solos and needs to be a strong singer. JOHN: is the middle Darling child who acts quite mature for his age. He is a smart, analytical thinker. John must show sophistication while being a child at heart. Most of John’s singing is done in a group. MICHAEL: is the youngest Darling child and baby brother to Wendy and John. He is sensitive and playful. Most of Michael’s singing is done in a group. MR. DARLING: is the Darling children’s father. He is a moody, pompous man who has an extremely caring heart underneath. This actor will be double cast as a pirate. MRS. DARLING: is the mother of Wendy, John, and Michael. She is wise and sensible, the calming opposite to Mr. Darling’s fussing. We’ll cast a performer who is capable of portraying a motherly command over her children and her husband. NANA: is a canine nursemaid to the Darling children. She cannot speak but takes very good care of Wendy, John, and Michael. CAPTAIN HOOK: is the dangerous villain who seeks revenge on Peter Pan for the loss of his hand. This role is a chance to showcase a very strong character actor. He should have good comedic timing, a clear speaking voice, and a big personality. While the role includes several solos, they can be spoken rather than sung. SMEE: is Captain Hook’s right-hand man and the show’s comic relief. The role of Smee is another opportunity to showcase a comedic performer alongside Captain Hook. This role requires only group singing. THE PIRATE ENSEMBLE: are Captain Hook’s round gang of henchmen. They are mean and gruff characters that do Captain Hook’s bidding. They include Jukes, Flint, Cookson, Murphy, Noodler, and Skylights. Pirates may be boys or girls. Group singing is required. THE CROCODILE: ate Captain Hook’s hand and is now following him to eat the rest. This is a non-speaking role, and the character will become part of the ensemble during other group numbers. THE LOST BOYS: are Peter Pan’s faithful gang. They are fellow orphans and incredibly loyal to their leader. The Lost Boys include Cubby, Skunk, Foxy, Hop, and The Raccoon Twins. Lost Boys may be cast as girls or boys. These roles include group singing. CHIEF TIGER BAMBOO: is the leader of the native population on Never Land. Only group singing is required for this role, so a commanding presence is most important. TIGER LILY: is the Indian Chief’s daughter. She is a strong and proud young woman, so we’ll cast someone who is confident and comfortable on stage. This is a role for a strong singer and dancer. THE INDIAN ENSEMBLE: are the native inhabitants of Never Land. They include Brave Pine, Brave Oak, and Brave Shrub. This ensemble must be strong dancers and will be showcased as such. We will cast boys and girls in this ensemble. THE MERMAIDS: are also native to Never Land and live in Mermaid Lagoon. They are very friendly to Peter but resentful to Wendy when she arrives. The mermaids include Aquata, Andrina, Arista, Atina, Adella, and Allana. These roles require mostly group singing. Arista has a small solo.
