Chapter News
September Meeting
Our speaker(s) for the September Meeting are from
Xerxes Corp. and speaking about underground storage
tanks. Fiberglass underground tanks for fire-protection
water are in high demand as a result of increased
regulations and insurance industry requirements. Whether
it is a sole source of water in rural areas or as a standby
water reservoir to supplement a pressurized municipal
water system, a Xerxes tank provides maintenance-free,
corrosion resistant underground water storage.
Fiberglass underground tanks are recognized in NFPA 22
standard, Water Storage Tanks for Fire Protection
Systems, as well as NFPA 1142 standard, Water Supplies
for Suburban and Rural Fire Fighting.
Please email your strange, funny, unusual, spectacular
pictures to Bill Kennedy at [email protected]!

Burning Issue September 2012
The scholarship committee met, and we all agreed on
the 2012 scholarship recipients. This year, the
number of applicants was up significantly from the
past couple of years. Of the nine qualified
applicants, five were from University of Maryland,
three were from University of Missouri S&T (Rolla),
and one was from University of Missouri –
Columbia. We did not send scholarship information
this year to Washington University or UMSL.
David Myers,
System Sensor
Due to the number of qualified applicants, the
scholarship committee has decided this year to award
three scholarships.
The top applicant, receiving the $3,500 scholarship,
is Edward Pearson from Cuba, MO. Edward is a
CE/ArchE major at Rolla, who worked on a project
involving re-designing of smoke dampers.

We congratulate our scholarship winners and thank
all of our applicants. Our efforts reaching out to the
Rolla students definitely paid off, as most of them
mentioned the presentation in their applications. We
plan on re-visiting the Rolla campus in the fall, as
well as making further contact with the Mizzou
campus. I will get the required information to Bob
Park so that he can write the checks to the schools.
Thanks again to all the scholarship committee
members and officers for all their efforts.
