Keeping Safe Online
PCSO Andy Poxon will be coming into school over the next few weeks to deliver some
work to pupils in years 6, 7 and 8 regarding keeping safe online and cyber-bullying. He
will deliver the information to each year group separately during assembly times. Staff
will be present and materials have been checked by school. If any parent wishes to view
the materials, then please leave your name and contact details with the office and we
will arrange a time for you to come in to school. This is part of a police project aimed at
children of this age to help them stay safe online. Y8 will be the first year group to
receive the talk during the week beginning 2nd February.
In addition to this, on the afternoon of 27th February, Y6 and Y5, (when they arrive
back from Kingswood), will watch a drama production called “Escape”, which is being
performed in school by the Saltmine Drama Company. The drama is to educate pupils on
how to stay safe online and has been paid for by the Staffordshire Safeguarding
Children Board.

LITERACY MATTERS 23th January 2015
This week‟s focus is apostrophes.
We hope that you find the activities useful. The answers will appear next week.
We often join two words together by taking out one or more letters and putting
an apostrophe in their place. This is known as a contraction.
I am = I‟m
she is = she‟s
we will = we‟ll
you are = you‟re
they have = they‟ve
N.B. Take care with:
would not = wouldn‟t
cannot = can‟t
could have = could‟ve
it is = it‟s
they are = they‟re
will not – won’t,
shall not – shan’t
Match up these pairs of words with the contracted form. Circle the correct one.
he is
we will
I would
could not
will not
could have
would not
should not
he „is
wel‟l
I‟d
couldent
willn‟t
could‟ave
wouldn‟t
shoulden‟t
he‟s
we‟ll
I‟de
couldn‟t
won‟t
could‟ve
would‟ent
shouldn‟t
Write down the contracted forms of these words-:
I am
could not
you will
she will
cannot
they have
it is
he has
Apostrophes are also used to show to whom something belongs.
When you have a singular noun (only one) or a plural noun that does not end in s –
add an apostrophe and an s.
Singular noun – a wizard’s spells
Plural noun – the children’s sweets
When you have a noun that already ends in s - add an apostrophe after the s
that is there.
Singular noun – Giles’ shoes
Plural noun – four flies’ wings
N.B. If you want to say that something belongs to it, you never use an
apostrophe. It’s is only used to mean it is.
e.g A frog will hop off its lily pad if it’s startled.
Add the missing apostrophe to each sentence.
1) The kitten cant climb the tree yet.
2) Smudge and Jaxx doze because theyre lazy.
3) Smudges jumping skills are amazing.
4) Its dark in the cupboard.
5) Six rats tails went into the cauldron.
6) The boys coat was in lost property.
7) The childrens bags were on the floor.
8) Mrs Smiths car is in the car park.
9) Three dogs leads were on the hook.
10) The babies rattles are noisy.
Remember – Only use an apostrophe to show missing letters or that something
belongs to someone. We NEVER use an apostrophe simply to make a plural noun.
LG Arena- NEC Birmingham
What a fantastic opportunity our children and their families enjoyed on
Thursday 15th January! After a very full and busy afternoon
rehearsal, singing as a massed choir of 5981 young people, our singers did
themselves and our school really proud. They were well-rehearsed and in tune
not only in terms of their voices, but also in their dance movements which
were beautifully in synch with each other too. Our children were also able to
sing with Mic Lowry (an up and coming boyband from Liverpool) and Lucy
Spraggan (from the X Factor), as well as dance with Urban Strides (the only
dance crew to ever open the Royal Variety Performance). PMS pupils were all
tremendously well-behaved, with other schools commenting on how wellmannered our pupils were. The lead conductor, David Lawrence, was also
impressed by the focus and effort of our children. So, our children truly
represented our school and their families well and deserved the praise and
congratulations received at the venue and when credited for their talent in
Monday's assembly this week. Well done to all the staff and pupils involved, and
to our parents who, together with our staff, supported this event so positively.
Our thanks go especially to Mrs Pickles, Mrs Henley, Mr West, Mr Watkins,
Miss Barnes, Mrs Baker and Mrs Shore who also strutted their funky stuff, in
competition with our youngsters on the night, as did their parents and family
members in the audience! Well done singers - you were fantastic ambassadors
for our school and represented your families well. Superstars indeed!
Mrs Pickles and Mrs Henley would like to add their thanks to mine in thanking all
those pupils involved for their dedication and passion. It was such a fantastic
event that we are already talking about the next one! If you would like to order
a DVD of the Young Voices concert, then please visit the Young Voices website

Well done, everyone! Mrs King.
