is the major international
gateway for South Africa.
Johannesburg is the major international gateway for South Africa. This
vibrant and dynamic city has a throbbing pulse and an awesome sense
of rhythm. Johannesburg’s history dates back to 1866 when gold was
discovered. A historical theme park, Gold Reef City is a replica of Old
Johannesburg and a highlight. Since the 1976 riots, the name Soweto has
been synonymous with the resilient community’s liberation struggle and
today tourists can visit famous landmarks, sample traditional cuisine and
interact with entrepreneurs who keep the city alive.
Johannesburg’s superb upmarket hotels, restaurants concentrated in the
Northern suburbs and shopping malls pander to all tastes. Must stop spots
for shoppers include Melrose Arch, Rosebank Craft Shop, Sandton City
and Nelson Mandela Square.
The cultural diversity of Johannesburg and its surroundings is easily
explored in the multitude of restaurants, markets and cultural villages.
Just a stone’s throw away from Johannesburg visit Lesedi Cultural Village
where one gets a glimpse of the diversity of the people of South Africa,
Pilanesberg National Park where you can encounter the Big 5, the Cradle
of Humankind where the history of mankind is traced back 4 million
years ago.
Various Tourvest Destination Management day tours allow you to
experience the best of Johannesburg.
