ROUTE
Aboard, there is always time for a refreshing glass
of wine. Provided the bottle has been properly cooled
and, if it is sparkling, left to settle after sailing.
Here are the 25 wines no galley is complete without

Above, like a compass, some of the labels tasted in Capri aboard an Itama 75 motor yacht. From top, clockwise, Ferrari Perlé nero

apri. Think of the word without uttering it,
and you call to mind places and atmospheres
that are magical, if not actually unique. The
sea, of course, the charm exerted by the island that
stands just a few miles from the port of Naples, a
harpoon’s cast from the Sorrento peninsula, where the Roman
emperors, first Octavian and then Tiberius, were captivated by
the position and the beauty of the island. What better place in
which to hold the presentation of three gems of Italian shipbuilding? What better setting to underscore the excellent creativity and skill of a shipyard as historic and famous as Itama? Itamas are versatile, practical and suited to every occasion. Always
elegant, they are comfortable to live in and easy to love. Up to
45 feet, you have the timeless charm of an open cruiser to live
to the full. Perfect for staying on board, venturing into the open
sea in summer, from early morning to sunset, for enjoying the
scenery, diving into the blue waters and clambering back aboard
for a refreshing drink. The galley is fitted out in the best possible manner. The season provides genuine dishes, rich in colours,
aromas and flavours, that are ideal for pairing with the wines we
have chosen to bring with us on the boat, wines to be sipped in
delightful company. Wines whose freshness and fine drinkability you can sense just by looking at them. Whites and Rosés, still
and sparkling, from Alto Adige to Sicily, and from Champagne to
Provence. Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon, Grillo, and also Negramaro
and Malvasia Nera, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, Traminer and
Catarratto, Moscato Giallo and Grenache.
T
he bottle must be well chilled, preferably housed in a cooler or an ice bucket, away from direct sunlight. Leave the
bottles to settle for a few minutes if you have been sailing,
to avoid showering yourself and your vessel in wine. Use proper
wine glasses rather than flutes, slowly pour a small amount into
the glass: just enough for two or three sips (wine heats up rapidly
in the glass in summer). Rotate the glass delicately, observe the
nuances of the colours, raise the glass to your nose and let the
bouquet release its aromas to you; now your palate is ready. Sip
with curiosity; perceive every detail on your tongue. Savouriness
and freshness, the wine will bring you pleasure and joy. For the
galley we have chosen Mediterranean and non-Mediterranean
wines that are capable of expressing Mediterranean character
and temperament in their fragrances and flavours
