Northern Initiative on Women and Eating (NIWE) provides
support to women with eating disorders – a serious mental
illness affecting over 1.6 million people in the UK and where
hospital admissions have risen by 16% in the last year.
NIWE will provide a peer group support for women in the
early stages of recovery, complementing NHS provision.
Them Wifies and the ‘Josephine’ project improve the lives
of women with learning disabilities by equipping them with
the knowledge and confidence to seek the health services
and support they need. Josephine’s Life Adventure will be a
fun way of sharing learning around important health and
relationship issues.
Tyneside Rape Crisis Centre is an organisation that offers
free, confidential counselling to any women aged over 16
who live, work or study in Tyneside and who have
experienced any form of sexual violence. Providing a service
during evenings is a vital part of the support TRCC offers.
West End Women and Girls Centre ‘Safe for Life’ project
works with young women aged 13- 19 to help them build
healthy relationships. There is clear evidence that teenage
girls increasingly experience domestic violence in coercive
and controlling relationships.
COCO is a Tyneside-based international charity working
with communities in remote regions of the developing
world. The aim of this project is to give young women in
Southern Tanzania the chance to start small businesses to
further their education and help them out of poverty.
The five charities opposite will be
presenting their inspiring and
interesting work.
At the end of all the presentations, you
have the opportunity to make a
donation in a lively, open pledging
session, or via an anonymous pledge.
You can pledge before or after the event
as well. There is no pressure to donate,
but the evening offers a unique chance
to hear about the work of the charities
first hand from those directly involved.
Refreshments and a light buffet supper
will be provided.
