KINGDOM MATTERS

KINGDOM MATTERS
Today, the Songhai people are very poor.
Their powerful kingdom has gone away.
They are farmers who grow just enough
food to try to keep their families alive. Most
Songhai people would say they are Muslim,
but they still pray to false gods and spirits.
Another kind of kingdom is the group of
people who believe in Jesus Christ. The
kingdom of God is built on Jesus’ power
and His love. If you have asked Jesus to be
your Savior, you are part of His Kingdom!
You are forever called to be Christ’s heart,
His hands and His voice!
In the kingdom of God all people matter,
one life matters and every child matters.
You matter and so does every child around
the world. After all, these are kingdom
matters!
.
Do you know what a kingdom is? A kingdom is an area or place ruled by a king or
a queen. Many years ago, the deserts of
Western Africa included a kingdom of the
Songhai [SONG-hi] people. The Songhai
kingdom was made up of strong warriors
who rode camels. They believed in magic
and false gods. They had a lot of power.
JESUS LOVES THE CHILDREN
Sally Hamrick lives and works in an African country called Mozambique [MO-zam-BEEK]. Many children
in Mozambique have never heard of Jesus. They do not have a Bible. They do not know Jesus died to save
them so they can have eternal life with him.
In some churches in Mozambique,
children are not welcome. But Sally
always welcomed the children to
church! She wants every child to
know Jesus loves them. She wants
them to know it for their whole
lives! She wants them to share
Jesus’ love with others, too.
Sally tells many Bible stories to
children in Mozambique. Draw a
picture of your favorite Bible story
you would share with the children.
YOUR
KINGDOM
COME
When you pray the “Lord’s Prayer,” you say, “Your
kingdom come.” This is asking Jesus to bring the
peace and love He has in heaven to earth. You can
help spread the kingdom of God by sharing His love
with people who do not know Him.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
on earth as
it is in heaven.
Matthew 6:10 (HCSB)

GET FRUITY
Many Songhai people in Niger work hard to grow crops of rice and a grain
called millet. Songhai who live near the banks of the Niger River also catch
fish, harvest mangos, grow small gardens and raise cows or goats.
Try this fruit salad recipe from Niger. Ask an adult to help you cut the fruit.
Mango Salad
Ingredients:
2 mangos
½ pineapple
½ cup lemon juice
1 cup orange juice or apricot nectar
Strawberries, washed
Cut mangos and pineapple into bite-size pieces. Mix juices and pour
over fruit chunks. Add 1 or 2 strawberries to each salad.
ARTS & CRAFTS FOR JESUS
Amy Walters and other short-term workers from Living Hope Baptist
Church in Bowling Green, Kentucky, went to Niger in West Africa.
They wanted to share Jesus’ love with the Songhai people.
Amy and the women from her church helped the Songhai women
do art projects. This gave them a chance to talk about Jesus.
It also gave the women a way to make money to support their
families.

One art project was to build and paint crosses with bright colors.
Pray for the Songhai people whenever you see a cross.
Remember! You can talk about Jesus with your friends while you
do crafts, play games or just hang out together.
