WHAT IS TRIREME?
2017-2018
Trireme is an all-girls service organization that has
existed at Hickman since 1940 and is recognized
throughout the community for its dedication to service.
The organization is composed of no more than 24
senior girls who demonstrate independence, leadership,
and a strong desire to participate and assist throughout
the community.
Members of Trireme meet once a month to plan
monthly service opportunities. Monthly meetings are
always brief, to the point, and very productive. Because of this, members are only allowed
to miss one meeting. —which must be documented and submitted to the club sponsor. As
a group of strong, independent leaders, the members are in charge of the meetings, as well
as developing the different service opportunities. As a member, you are required to:
 attend monthly meetings
 serve once on the service opportunity committee and plan a group event
 contribute four hours of service each month (note – volunteering hours for Student
Government, NHS, Biology Club, etc. CANNOT count for Trireme. You must
commit to go above and beyond any other volunteering other groups require.)
Our service opportunities are vast and varied, including working at the Food Bank,
True/False Film Fest, tutoring in Columbia Public Schools, homecoming fundraising, the
annual rose sales, Citizen Jane Film Festival, etc. You may also meet your service
requirements through individual service projects you complete on your own.
Applications are due to Ms. Brooks in room 235 by Friday, May 5. If you are accepted
into the organization, you will be notified by May 17.
Lastly, please make sure that if you choose to apply for Trireme, it is a commitment that
you can uphold. Often, students become so involved in activities during their senior year
that they become completely overwhelmed. It’s always better to be deeply involved in
fewer activities than to have shallow participation in a few. Trireme is a great organization
that not only helps the community, but builds a strong bond between the outstanding
female students at Hickman.

In order to begin the selection process for new Trireme Members, please complete the following information sheet and
turn it in to Ms. Brooks in room 235 NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, MAY 5 at 4:30. Applications received after this
date WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. You must be able to contribute four hours of service each month (average;
a total of 36 hours for the school year) in addition to a monthly meeting—these are the two requirements of the
organization.
