Dear Residents,
The Township Committee extends its best wishes for a joyous holiday and a peaceful New Year.
The specific dates and times for meetings of your Governing Body and the various boards, committees, and commissions appear monthly in
the calendar and on our newly designed website, www.morristwp.com. We are pleased to offer an additional feature on our website located in
our Agenda Center; the Township Committee Meeting Audio in its entirety. This feature will complement the agenda and minutes of the
meetings that are also posted.
You are always welcome to attend and participate in the governance of your township. Your input enables us to understand your concerns and
to better meet your needs in our planning. Our Administrator, Timothy Quinn, can be reached at 973-326-7360 to address any questions or
issues that may arise.
Additionally, we ask that you sign up for the Municipal Messenger by emailing [email protected]. This service provides information
about the Township on a regular basis to keep you informed about what is going on in town. We encourage you also to sign up for Nixle alerts
at http://nixle.com/register where the Morris Township Police Department provides information regarding emergencies and other issues in town
to ensure your safety.
We continue to move forward with the Automated Trash Collection Program in 2016 and beyond to increase the safety of our employees while
saving valuable tax dollars. Please take a few moments to review the solid waste and recycling procedures and pickup schedule for your
neighborhood. If you have any questions about how to prepare your recyclables for pickup, or larger items to be disposed of, please call the
Department of Public Works at 973-326-7398. They will be happy to assist you.
Keeping your taxes low is our first priority and volunteers are a key component to making Morris Township such a wonderful place to live.
Volunteering is especially important as it enables more community services to flourish while still holding the line on your municipal tax
dollar. If you have any interest in volunteering for any of the various boards, committees, or commissions, please contact the Clerk’s Office
at 973-326-7430. If you are interested in volunteering for our ambulance squad, the Morris Minute Men, please call 973-539-1776 or, if
you are interested in becoming a volunteer fire fighter, please call 973-326-7435.
Sincerely,
Members of the 2016 Township Committee
Daniel W. Caffrey, Louise T. Johnson, Peter V. Mancuso, Matheu D. Nunn, Bruce D. Sisler

ABC’S OF PLASTIC RECYCLING
Help keep plastic out of the landfill. Here’s an easy way to recycle plastic classes 1-7.
You may deposit your qualified recyclable plastic at your curbside or at the recycling depot in the same way and on the same schedule you do currently. Please
follow the rules stated below. If you wish to dispose of oversized class1-7 objects, please transport them to the depot on Jane Way.
Before putting any plastic item into your recycling bin, ask yourself:
1) Does it have any of the below listed symbols stamped on it?
(Most recycling symbol codes are located on or near the bottom of plastic containers.)
If a PLASTIC item has a Recycling Code 1 thru 7 marked on it, please recycle that item. Some examples of acceptable items are those used for soda, water, juice,
milk, shampoo, laundry detergent, squeezable bottles (honey, mustard) blister packs, cat litter pails, yogurt, margarine, bottle caps, small toys, compact disk cases,
plastic take-out food, medicine, and baby bottles. These items will be collected with your current recycling curbside collection.
Due to collection truck characteristics, items larger then a 5 gallon pail will not be picked up from curbside. You may bring large qualified class 1-7 objects such as
toys, outdoor furniture, and PVC water pipes to the Department of Public Works Recycling Depot located on Jane Way off West Hanover Ave.
Please clean containers before recycling.

GUIDELINES FOR PROPER DISPOSAL OF HOUSEHOLD MEDICATION
Over-the-counter and prescription medications should not be disposed of down the drain. Wastewater treatment facilities are not designed to remove
pharmaceutical compounds, and they may end up in your local waterways, which may eventually be found in drinking water. Properly disposing of
unwanted and expired prescriptions and over-the-counter medications in the trash promotes a healthy aquatic environment and prevents accidental
poisoning and intentional abuse.
1. Keep medicine in original container. Mark out personal information on prescription bottles.
2. Mix liquid medicine with undesirable substances like coffee grinds, cat litter, or dirt. Dilute pills with water, and then add coffee grinds,
cat litter, or dirt.
3. Place bottles in an opaque container, such as a yogurt container, and secure lid, or wrap in a dark-colored plastic bag.
4. Hide the container in the trash. Do not recycle.
Do NOT dispose of medication down the drain or toilet. Do NOT keep excess or expired medication around the home.
Improper disposal in your trash allows others to divert the substance and consume medication that was not prescribed to them.
Prevent water pollution, Promote a healthy environment, and Properly dispose of your unneeded and expired medication.
Visit www.americanmedicinechest.com for a disposal location near you.

CARTONS ARE NOW RECYCLABLE!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
ABOUT CARTONS
 What is a carton?
Cartons are a type of packaging for food and
beverage products you can purchase at the store.
They are easy to recognize and are available in two
types—shelf-stable and refrigerated. Examples
are:
Shelf-stable cartons –
found on shelves in
the grocery store
Refrigerated – found in the
chilled sections of grocery
stores
Juice
Milk
Soy Milk
Soup and broth
Wine
Milk
Juice
Cream
Egg Substitutes
EXAMPLES OF
ACCEPTABLE CARTONS
FOR RECYCLING
 What are cartons made from?
Cartons are mainly made from paper in the form of
paperboard, as well as thin layers of polyethylene
(plastic), and/or aluminum. Shelf-stable cartons
contain on average 74% paper, 22% polyethylene,
and 4% aluminum. Refrigerated cartons contain
about 80% paper and 20% polyethylene.
 How do I recycle cartons?
Simply place the cartons in your container with
comingled glass food jars/beverage bottles;
aluminum beverage cans; steel food/beverage
cans; plastic soda/milk/water bottles and other
plastic coded 1 through 7. DO NOT PLACE THEM
WITH PAPER RECYLABLES. Caps and straws
should be removed before recycling. Cartons
should be rinsed to insure sanitary storage.
For additional information, please contact the Department of Public
Works at 973-326-7398 or visit www.RecycleCartons.com

10 Ways to Prepare Your Family for
Emergencies
1) Have Emergency “Evacuation”/”Shelter in Place” Plans
6) Prepare for Utility Disruption
Ask the question – “What would we do if . . .” a particular set of emergency
circumstances was to arise? Think about the possibilities of different events:
flood, earthquake, winter storm, etc. Develop escape routes from your
home/work with safe places and gathering points. Make considerations in you
plan for family members with special needs and/or pets.
Plan for alternate sources of power and heat in case normal utility (gas and
electricity) services are interrupted.
2) Have a Family Communications Plan
8) Insurance and Inventory
7) Vital Records and Documents
Store in a safe place like a safe deposit box but keep copies in your go kit.
Identify an out of state contact. After a disaster it’s often easier to make a long Be aware of specific hazards that threaten your area and then check to see if

this person and relay messages about where they are and if they are ok.
3) Have a 72 hour “Go Kit”
Portable 72 hour kit that is easily accessible in case you need to leave your
home. Three day supply of nonperishable food items and water (a gallon per
person per day). Include a flashlight, a radio, first aid supplies, prescription
medications (insulin, blood pressure, allergy, etc.), a whistle, hygiene
products, batteries, clothing, and blankets.
4) Equip your Car
Keep your gas tank full and a 72 hour “Go Kit” in your car.
5) Reduce home hazards
Mitigate hazards at home by keeping heavy objects on lower shelves,
securing bookcases and large furniture to walls and installing a water
heater strap.
9) Municipal Messenger – Electronic Newsletter
Sign up for the Municipal Messenger at [email protected]. During
times of emergency information will be disseminated by e-mail on a frequent
basis. Other important Township news and information will be disseminated
on a regular basis.
10) Pay attention to “Alert” Notifications
During an event listen for alert notifications and follow the
instructions given. Know which radio, television stations and
which web sites will have emergency information in your area.
Sign up for emergency text message alerts from the town at
