Many people are becoming increasingly concerned about
the upcoming General Election. There is a great deal of
concern and confusion about where the Catholic Church
stands on a number of important issues. The Church
staunchly maintains that we are not aligned with any one
political party but the Church does strongly urge all faithful
Catholic Christians to participate in the democratic process
and vote.
Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, October 4
Many people are unclear about precisely what the Church
does teach on a wide range of issues and concerns that
help to inform and guide people when making decisions
regarding their vote. While we don’t engage in endorsing
candidates the Bishops of the United States do offer
guidance so that Catholic voters can make informed
decisions.

ONLY ONE WEEK LEFT TO RESPOND!
We will be recruiting new servers until October 9th and
then we will begin training sessions for the new
servers as well as “refresher” training for those who
already serve. We hope the new servers will be placed
on the schedule starting in Advent. We are looking for
boys and girls who 1) have already received their First
Holy Communion 2) participate in Sunday Mass on a
regular basis 3) have a willingness to serve at the Mass
to which they are assigned 4) want to grow in their
faith and grow closer to God.
You must be willing to attend ALL training sessions
(NO exceptions!) on Monday nights from 7:00-7:30PM.
The training sessions will take place in the church on
October 17, October 24, November 7 and November
14. (no session on October 31, Halloween)
You may sign up to do this service for one year or
more. Serving at the altar can be applied as
Confirmation service hours.
If you are interested then please call the Parish Office
at 908-689-0058 Mon.-Fri. between 9:00AM and 4:00PM

FROM THE ADMINISTRATOR
Today is Respect Life Sunday.
As happens each year the Life
Chain will take place in front of
Planned Parenthood on Rte. 57
from 2:00-3:30PM. All those
who are willing and able are
encouraged to take part in this
peaceful, non-confrontational
witness to the sanctity of
human life.
Today is also a day that is
designated each year by the United Nations as the
International Day of non-Violence. On 15 June 2007 the
United Nations General Assembly voted to establish 2
October as the International Day of Non-Violence. The
resolution by the General Assembly asks all members of
the UN system to commemorate 2 October in "an
appropriate manner and disseminate the message of nonviolence, including through education and public
awareness." The date was chosen because it is the
birthday of Mohandas K. Gandhi, more commonly known
to the rest of the world as Mahatma Gandhi.
October 2 is observed in India as “Gandhi Jayanti” a
festival to honor the man seen by many as the Father of
his country. He led the movement for India to gain
independence from the U.K and did so by advocating nonviolent resistance. His writings and methods captivated the
world and inspired Martin Luther King, Jr. and many others
involved in the Civil Rights movement in our own country.
Moving for social change often can turn ugly and violent.
Recent events in our own country have proven that.
Mahatma Gandhi (the name Mahatma means “great soul”)
resisted the temptation to give into to violence in any form
to achieve his goals. He once said that he was willing to
die for the cause of freedom for which he fought but there
was no cause for which he was willing to kill. Because of
his efforts to keep India united in independence he was
assassinated in 1948 shortly after India won her freedom.
How fitting on a day when people of good will around the
world are encouraged to take part in observances about
non-violence that the Church keeps a day to Respect Life.
Catholic Christians around the country will spend part of
the day contemplating the terrible violence done to the
most innocent and peacefully, non-violently, raising
awareness and voicing our opposition to this horrible
tragedy. I hope you, too will spend part of the day praying
for the victims of violence of any kind. If you are so moved
to join in the Life Chain it would be a most fitting way to
show our Catholic belief in the sanctity of human life from
conception until natural death as well as honor the spirit of
non-violent resistance to cruel and unjust laws and
practices.
May the Lord make us all instruments of His peace!
