Guide to Accompany Item #1016582 Platform TextureSwing with Activities by Cecilia Cruse, MS, OTR/L Introduction Built just the way you like it, our Platform Swing line is sure to please. Lightweight birch makes lifting and safety a breeze while ropes are comfortably coated with flexible plastic tubing for those children with tactile sensitivities. The Standard Platform is 30" x 30" while the smaller platform is 20" x 30" with a swing rope length of 48". Comes with one comfort snap for hanging from a single suspension point. Both swings have a weight limit of 300 lbs. Product Use The Platform Swings can be used any time suspended equipment is required. Please note that treatment activities may vary with the sensory needs of each child and it is recommended that each child’s therapist dictate the protocol for swing use. Here are a few basic ideas to get started on the Platform Swing: 1. Great for gravitational insecurity! Have the child sit comfortably in the middle of the swing. Rock the swing gently. Allow the child to have one or both feet on the floor as needed. 2. Ideal for working on balance. Have the child try tall kneeling (both knees on the platform) or a kneel-stand position (one knee down, one foot down) with arms out to sides. Wow! You are surfing! Watch out!...here come the waves, can you keep your balance? 3. Wonderful for motor planning and visual tracking! As above, and have the child toss bean bags while swinging to a target such as a bucket or beanbag board game (tic-tac-toe, clown toss etc.) Try a game of catch with a beach ball or hit at a balloon while swinging. 4. Perfect for heavy work input! Have the child lie on tummy on the board. Use hands to push off the floor to swing and/or play a board game or beanbag toss on the floor in front of the swing. 5. Super for encouraging prone extension! Child lies on tummy on the board with legs out straight behind. Encourage the “superman” or airplane posture (legs out, arms out, neck and shoulders up) by having child reach forward with both hands for an object in front- such as a light baton or bat. Touch the bar and/or place a sticker on the bar before the swing pulls back. Repeat. Modifications For younger children, or those with severe balance or gravitational issues, use a small box, swim ring or small inner tube to have the child sit inside while on the Platform Swing. Place one of our Textured Vines (Product Recommendations below) in the swing for added sensory input. Care & Safety It is your responsibility to see that all suspended equipment is hung safely from the ceiling. Ceiling support should be able to handle a 1000 lb. working load and the swing area should have at least 6 feet of clearance from each wall. Abilitations assumes no responsibility for swing installation or use. Children should be supervised and guided during all suspended equipment activities. You can wipe down the Platform Swing with a damp cloth or germicidal wipe. Recommended Products • Height Adjustment System: Item #023721 • Textured Vines: Available in a variety of textures.
