Using GOFAR to Create Assessments
Creating assessments
1. By random selection











Make sure you are in the Item Bank tab.
Select the filters you want to apply.
Click the Search button.
Click on the Add Test with selected filters button. It is above the filters.
In the box that appears, give your test a title, select the number of questions desired, and adjust
other options to your preferences. Click on the Save button.
In the next box on the Test Detail tab, set your test preferences if different from the default. Using
the button at the bottom of the box on the left, you can Preview your test like it will be viewed by
students taking the test online. If you want to make remove items from the test, you can do so in
the box on the right by clicking the Remove button beside the particular item(s) you want to delete.
If you want a pencil-and-paper copy of the test or you want a hard copy of the assessment, click on
Print.
o You will be given the option to check a box to show the key to the test. The key is useful for
selected response items; it will be blank for constructed response items. Click on the Print
test button.
o The printed copy of the test will appear in a new window as a PDF. You can print from the
screen for a hard copy and/or save the document to your files. Because it is a PDF, you have
limited options for editing and formatting.
On the Test Attributes tab, you can verify the filters and edit if necessary. Be sure to click Save if
you make any changes.
On the Test Score (Range) Definition tab, you can set performance level cutoffs. Be sure to click
Save if you make any changes.
If you are giving the test online, you will need to go back to the Test Detail tab and click the Push to
Test Administration button.
Click on the X at the right top of the Random Test Creation box to close out of it.
2. By filtering, viewing, and selecting items (using the cart)







Make sure you are in the Item Bank tab.
Select the filters you want to apply.
Click the Search button.
In the Search Result section of the screen, click on the Preview button beside any item you would
like to see. Close out of the Question Preview box and click on the Add button beside the item if
you want to include it on your test. Repeat with additional items until your cart contains the
number of items you want to have on your test.
Click on the Cart button at the top right of the Search Result section. Your cart will open and allow
you to preview individual items or all items and remove any that you want to delete. Once you have
finished viewing and making any changes, click on the Create New Test with Cart tab.
The Test Detail tab of the Random Test Creation box will open. Give your test a title, select your
preferences, and click Save.

Accessing already created assessments





Make sure you are in the Test Creation tab.
Select the filters you want to apply.
Click the Search button.
Preview any of the already created assessments. If you want to use the test, click on Edit.
You will want to click on Print to get a hard copy or save the document electronically. If you intend to give the
test online, click on the Push to Test Administration button.
Assigning online assessments







Make sure you are in the Test Administration tab.
Select the filters you want to apply.
Click the Search button.
Click on the filter icon in the Created by column. Enter your name just like you log on to school computers in the
box below the “is equal to” box. Click on the Filter tab.
Click the Assign button beside the test you want to assign to students.
In the Test Information box that appears, do each of the following:
o Give your test a form name in the first box. Entering a test form description is optional.
o Indicate the start and end dates, uncheck days of the week as appropriate, and edit the start and end
times as appropriate.
o Record the student passcode and scoring passcode.
o Find the school and grade level in the Student Information list. Click on the box in front of the school
and grade level to select all students meeting that criteria. Otherwise, click on the button to expand
the list to find and select individual students.
o Click on the Add button between the columns. Selected students will appear in the right column.
o Click on Save and Publish to Students.
You will get a Submitted Successfully notification or you will be given corrections that need to be made in order
to save and publish to students successfully.
Student access of assigned tests






Enter the following URL in the address bar: https://gofar.gadoe.org/GOFARWeb
Enter GTID.
Enter Test Passcode.
Click the Submit button.
On the next screen, click the Take Test button.
Navigate through the test. Click Finish Test when complete. Confirm completion and close message to log out.
