Stage Notes News from Center Stage Dance Academy, LLC Terri Kirksey, Owner 218 E. Jackson Bolivar, MO 65613 www.bolivarcenterstagedance.com September, 2009 Miss Terri’s Turn We are coming to a close on another year. Before I get into the need to knows, I want to take a minute to thank each and every one of you that sent the flowers, cards, food and gifts to me and my family during this very difficult time. If you haven’t heard, my younger sister, Sherri, was found dead in her home the Monday after we came home from competition. It was such a shock and we still don’t have answers. Sherri was in perfect health, she was a professional kick boxer, ranked top 10 of the women’s kick boxers in the world. According to the reports, her heart just stopped. It was not a heart attack, nor was it any kind of medical problem that went undetected. It just stopped. We don’t know why, still waiting on tests that have been sent off, and we may never know anything more. We have heard of other cases where young people who have been extreme athletes starting at a young age have been perfectly healthy and their heart just stopped. No reason why. My sister has always been extreme in her sports. Anyway, this has been a very difficult time for my family and I thank you all for being there and showing the support and love. I apologize for everything seeming a little disorganized lately, pictures, tights orders, not knowing what’s going on at the studio, etc. That is all my fault. I usually get a lot of those types of things taken care of during spring break, but I jumped on a plane that first day and was gone for a week. I am very forgetful lately and feel a little disconnected from reality trying to deal with Sherri’s death. So please have patience with me when I forget things, I really don’t mean to! You are all the best “Dance Family” anyone could ask for, I love every single one of you! Thank you again for all your support! Okay, lots to think about to be ready for recital. RIOT is starting now. Sign up and join the fun. All parents, grandparents, whoever wants to participate are welcome! Ad sales, recital t-shirts and flower orders are beginning now. If you need shoes or tights, come to me and order them now to make sure we get them in time for recital. Recital Saturday practices will be on May 14th & 21st at 9am. Parent Review Parents are invited to watch their child in class on the first lesson of each month. The remainder of the month is time for one-on-one instruction with your child and their teacher. You will be amazed at their progress when you return to watch the next month!! So please, do not stay in the classes during the other weeks of the month, it is distracting for our students, and some parents have complained that parents are staying in the class. RECITAL CORNER *All students will begin learning the Finale in their classes. Recital tshirts are being ordered now. Students can choose which color of shirt they would like from lime green or aqua blue. The design will be the same on the shirts. Be sure to check the spelling of your child’s name that will appear on the back of the recital t-shirts. *Ad sales are starting now. You can purchase an ad to wish your dancer good luck or sell ads to area businesses. The student that sells the most ads will win a full page ad in the recital program with a picture. * Flower orders are now being taken for recital. You can order flowers to give to your dancer that will be waiting for you to pick up at the recital. It is tradition to give flowers to dancers after a performance. We will have some extra flowers to sell at the recital, but don’t wait, they run out fast, so order now! * All student accounts must be paid in full by May 15th in order for your child to dance in the recital. Don’t forget to add the recital fee to this which makes it a free show and we encourage you to invite everyone you can think of to come to the show! *Make sure your child has all their dance shoes and tights they need. Double check that you have all your costume pieces. *Backstage Mom’s sign up sheets are available in the entryway. Please sign up to be a Backstage mom and help your child’s class get ready for the recital. You will still be able to watch the show and your child dance, you will just be in charge of keeping the class together and helping with changing of costumes. Dancers are supposed to come with hair and make-up already done and their first costume on and ready to dance. If you have questions, please just ask. Any student that is in more than one class, that child’s parent must automatically be a backstage parent for their own child. *A Backstage Mom’s meeting will be held at both Saturday Practices to give you all the information you need.
