How Obama’s “Echo Chamber” Helped Sell The Iran Deal
By Roger Aronoff
ccording to a New York Times Magazine interview with Ben Rhodes, the White House actively
created a mainstream media “echo chamber” to
bolster its pursuit of a disastrous nuclear deal with Iran.
Now, recent news reports indicate that this echo chamber
was created in cooperation with the Ploughshares Fund, a
group that influenced the mainstream media to advocate
for the deal by sending hundreds of thousands of dollars
to media organizations such as NPR, Mother Jones and
The Nation, as well as to other like-minded groups.
“We had test drives to know who was going to be able
to carry our message effectively, and how to use outside
groups like Ploughshares, the Iran Project and whomever
else,” said Rhodes during his recent interview with The New
York Times Magazine. “So we knew the tactics that worked.”
Ploughshares is a left-wing organization funded by George
Soros’ Open Society Foundations.
“What should raise more eyebrows was that Ploughshares
didn’t limit its largess to like-minded groups about nuclear
weapons…. Ploughshares and its chairman, Joe Cirincione, also
dropped some serious coin on National Public Radio, to the tune
of some $700,000 since 2005, with grants since 2010…specifically mentioning Iran,” notes Tom Nichols for The Federalist.
“NPR then had Cirincione on to explain the awesomeness of
the nuclear deal, at least once forgetting to mention he’d given
them several hundred thousand dollars.”
But as The Washington Free Beacon is reporting, NPR cancelled an interview they had lined up with an opponent of the
deal, Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-KS)—and initially lied about it.
“‘As Obama administration officials admit to misrepresenting
reality on the deal, it is clear that the American people have been
played,’ Pompeo, a member of the House intelligence committee,
told the Free Beacon on Monday.”
“Specifically, recent statements and financial documents raise
serious concerns about the integrity of the Ploughshares Fund,
NPR, which is partly tax-payer funded, and the entire nuclear
deal debate,” added Pompeo.
Cirincione defended Rhodes against assertions that he had manipulated—and funded—the press. “I have known Ben Rhodes
A
for over seven years,” he wrote in an opinion piece for Politico.
“He is a good man who has served his nation well.”
“I asked him about this quote” that describes Rhodes’ media outreach tactics, adds Cirincione. “He [Rhodes] said that
he was trying to convey the work the White House did with
like-minded groups.” Notably, Cirincione again does not mention in his column anything about the funding that his group,
Ploughshares, had allocated for convincing others to promote
the Iran negotiations.
The Obama administration has long succeeded in getting the
media to ignore its many scandals, and to report faithfully and
positively regarding its signature legacy items. It continues to
convince reporters to try to make scandalous stories simply go
away. Thus, it is not surprising that this administration was able
to sell a deeply flawed Iran deal to the public, with the help of
a corrupt news media.
It has become more and more obvious that the Obama administration continues to seek to control the news cycle so that
only favorable coverage of its policies makes it to print. And
Ploughshares has been actively aiding the White House.
“The Arms Control Association got $282,500; the Brookings
Institution, $225,000; and the Atlantic Council, $182,500,”
reports Bradley Klapper for The Associated Press on May 20.
“They received money for Iran-related analysis, briefings and
media outreach, and non-Iran nuclear work.”
“In a ‘Cultural Strategy Report’ on its website, the group

Roger Aronoff was a guest on “Cavuto Coast to Coast” on the Fox
Business Network. The topic was
the media double standard when
covering the presidential candidates.
After a New York Times article
came out critical of how Donald
Trump has treated various women
in his life, one of the main women
in their story called out the Times’
reporters and said that they deceptively skewed her story negatively.
“I’m not sure this is an avenue
that the Times or the…Clinton
candidacy wants to go down, because really [Hillary Clinton] is
selling her candidacy as a co-presidency with Bill, a return to the
good old days of Bill Clinton,” said
Aronoff on Cavuto’s show.
Whereas the Times wrote
about Trump’s alleged mistreatment of women, Mr. Clinton himself has been accused of raping a
woman. “And she [Juanita Broaddrick] credibly claimed that Bill
Clinton raped her back in 1979,
and there’s contemporaneous
testimony to back that up,” said
Aronoff. “And Hillary herself has
said [in the] not too distant past
that anyone who claims to have
been raped or assaulted should be
believed.”
Dear Fellow Media Watchdogs:
In light of the jihadi terrorist attack in Orlando, the media are doing their usual distractions. This is a man—Omar
Mateen—who had been under FBI investigation twice before
because fellow employees and others who knew him reported
his sympathies for other jihadi terrorist attacks, going back as
far as the September 11, 2001 World Trade Center attacks.
But instead of focusing on the terrorist himself, and the ideology that inspires him, we are distracted by the same old calls
for changing gun laws. The media continue to blame this attack on Republicans in
general, and presumptive Republican candidate Donald Trump in particular.
This is what The New York Times wrote in response to the jihadist, terrorist attack at a gay nightclub in Orlando: “While the precise motivation for the rampage
remains unclear, it is evident that Mr. Mateen was driven by hatred toward gays and
lesbians. Hate crimes don’t happen in a vacuum. They occur where bigotry is allowed
to fester, where minorities are vilified and where people are scapegoated for political
gain. Tragically, this is the state of American politics, driven too often by Republican
politicians who see prejudice as something to exploit, not extinguish.” I won’t call this
denial, because I believe it is a deliberate attempt to deflect blame from the poisonous
ideology that repeatedly spawns this sort of activity, and the Times has to know that.
With Hillary Clinton now the presumptive nominee for the Democrats, and
with President Obama having endorsed her publicly, the stage is set. But as usual,
the media have their thumb on the scale. They are desperate to keep the focus of the
conversation on what a terrible, evil racist Donald Trump is, and every Republican
has to come on the air and explain how they can possibly support him. Whether the
issue is the lawsuits against him for Trump University, or charges that he is a racist
because of his comments about the judge handling that case, the media are relentless
in their attempt to destroy him.
But there is no comparable coverage of the sins and crimes of Hillary Clinton.
Whether it is the thousands of pages containing classified material that were found
to have passed through her private, homebrew, unsecure server, or her pay for play
as secretary of state. Peter Schweizer, in his book Clinton Cash, has documented the
numerous examples of Mrs. Clinton using her position as secretary of state to make
deals that benefitted her husband and former President Bill Clinton, as well as their
foundation, in exchange for favorable treatment, and often lots of U.S. taxpayer dollars.
One blatant example is Laureate Education, which shows how the media can be so
interested in one alleged scandal—Trump University—about a candidate’s involvement
in a for-profit university, where people have sued, where high-pressure sales tactics
were used to get people to go in to debt to pay tuition. Yet in the case of Laureate, the
media fail to investigate because it is an indictment of the Clintons. Double standards!•

outlined a broader objective of ‘ensuring
regular and accurate coverage of nuclear
issues in reputable and strategic media

Klapper.
It is no wonder that Ploughshares and
the White House are working together.
As we reported, “Rhodes sold carefully
crafted and prepackaged soundbites about
Iran to the press to create a narrative that
did not match the facts…It is pure propaganda.”
But according to Rhodes, writing in his
own defense, the White House just spoke
to anyone interested in promoting the Iran
deal. “Given our interest in making sure
that any misinformation was corrected,
and that people understood our policy, we
made a concerted effort to provide information about the deal to any interested
party, including to outside organizations
and any journalists covering the issue,” he
writes for Medium.

facts,” Rhodes later added.
By facts, Rhodes means soundbites that
favored the White House narrative on
Iran.
In reality, the disastrous Iran deal is no
deal at all. It hasn’t been signed by Iran

administration has acknowledged. Even
In reality, the disastrous Iran deal is

worse, the unsigned “deal” will ultimately
result in Iran becoming a nuclear power.
The report about Rhodes has put the
White House in a defensive stance. “I
think there are some people who have
some explaining to do when it comes to
the wildly false accusations that they made
about the Iran deal,” claimed White House
press secretary Josh Earnest on May 12.
“And it’s not the administration. It’s Re-
publicans who are demonstrably wrong
when it comes to the Iran deal,” he continued.
As new information comes out about
the deal, the administration and the deal
itself continue to look worse and worse.
The Obama administration has, according
to an Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps’
Aerospace and Missile Force commander,
recently reached out to Iran to discourage
it from publicizing its ballistic missile tests,
The Washington Free Beacon reports.
Those ballistic missiles could potentially
be designed to carry a nuclear payload,
and the tests exemplify Iran’s continued
hostility toward other nations.
The White House and Ploughshares,
among other liberal groups, sold the
American people a bad deal which will endanger generations to come. It is a telling
chapter highlighting the Obama administration’s ability to manipulate the press,
and thereby fool the American public.•

Something Stinks: The “Fishy” Vince Foster Case
onald J. Trump has brought up
the case of the mysterious death
of former Clinton aide Vincent
Foster, calling it “fishy.” Trump is right.
Foster is the man who knew too much.
He had knowledge of various Clinton
scandals, including Travelgate, the Waco
tragedy, and possibly some illegal activities involving national security. His body
was found in a Virginia park on July 20,
1993, and the media accepted the verdict
of suicide.
But as AIM founder and late chairman
Reed Irvine and I reported on the case,
there were so many anomalies that the
Special Division of the Court of Appeals
ordered an appendix added to Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr’s report on
the death of Vincent Foster. The appendix
exposed serious flaws in the report that
cast strong doubt on the suicide finding.
These anomalies included:
•No bullet was ever found in Fort Marcy
Park, even though Foster supposedly shot
himself there.
•The gun that was found in his hand
has never been positively identified as his.
•Foster’s fingerprints were not found
on the gun.
Many people in the media
claim that numerous investigations confirmed it was a suicide.
Glenn Kessler of The Washington Post says there were “five
official investigations into Foster’s death, conducted by professional investigators, forensic
experts, psychologists, doctors
and independent prosecutors
with unlimited resources.” CNN’s Jake
Tapper says it is “shameful” for Trump to
question these findings.
But the official government investigations, including the one run by ardent
“Republican” Kenneth Starr, were flawed.
Nobody knew this better than Miguel
Rodriguez, the lead investigator of Foster’s
death for Independent Counsel Starr. He
uncovered evidence that Foster had not
committed suicide. However, Rodriguez,
the prosecutor in charge of the grand jury
investigation of Foster’s death, resigned
because of interference with his investigation. As Irvine noted, “If he had been
permitted to complete the grand jury investigation, he would have exposed the
many lies that were told to cover up Fos-
ter’s murder.” Irvine exposed many of these
lies in a 2001 edition of the AIM Report.
Hugh Turley, a researcher, recently
wrote an article about the case for AIM.
It was titled, “Hillary Clinton’s Continuing Lack of Interest in Cover-up of Vince
Foster’s Murder.”
He confirms that:
“Associate Independent Counsel Rodriguez, an experienced prosecutor, thought
he ‘was scoring big points’ for Ken Starr
investigating the death of Vince Foster,
President Bill Clinton’s deputy White
House counsel. Rodriguez’s assistant Lucia
Rambusch thought they ‘would be getting
pats on the back’ for uncovering evidence
Foster had been murdered. Instead, according to Deputy Independent Counsel

continued from page 3
Hickman Ewing’s notes, Rodriguez said
that Deputy Independent Counsel Mark
Tuohey ‘cancelled everything [he] was doing’ and ‘undermined everything [he] had
done.’”
The case is an old one, a “cold case” as
they say. But if there’s an ongoing cover-up
of a murder, Trump, if elected president,
could order a new investigation. Such a
probe might show media complicity in
the cover-up that is documented in the
appendix.
Some other critical facts:
•Foster’s car, a 1989 gray Honda, was
not at Ft. Marcy Park when he died.
•The .38 revolver found in his hand was
not the gun that killed him. It was not
his gun. The caliber of the gun was too
large to be consistent with the small hole
in the side of Foster’s neck. A memo by
Rodriguez found at the National Archives
stated that “the corpse was staged with the
revolver brought by” investigators.
•Foster’s so-called suicide note was a
forgery. It said nothing about suicide.
Handwriting experts say the note, which
had no fingerprints on it, wasn’t even
written by Foster. The note was found
in a briefcase that had previously been
searched.
Yes, something was, and is, very fishy
in the case of the death of Vincent Foster.
Media attacks on Trump are a diversion
from the media’s documented unwillingness to thoroughly investigate the case.
Irvine said at the time, “The cover-up is
so transparent to those familiar with the
facts that it is maddening to see those responsible make America look like a nation
of dolts. Not that we haven’t tried to make
the truth known, but the brilliant men and
women who decide what’s fit to print and
to air in the traditional media need to have
their closed minds pried open.”
Irvine’s comments are even more appropriate now.•

Misrepresenting the Threat of Islam
By James A. Lyons and Clare M. Lopez
O
ne of the worst things that political and military leaders of
a country at war can do is to
misrepresent, or not understand, the threat
doctrine and objectives of the enemy. Like
it or not, America has been at war since
November 1979 when Iran took over our
embassy in Tehran.
On May 15, 2016, The Washington
Post carried an article by retired General
David Petraeus, which was his attempt
to offer some insights for our next President on how to combat the current threat
posed by the Islamic State (IS). He also
attempted to address the broader Islamic
jihadist ideology that animates them! In
so doing, there is an unstated presumption throughout the article that “Islam is a
religion of Peace” that has been hijacked by
Islamic extremist groups, e.g., Al-Qaeda,
Islamic State, al-Nusrah, etc. Nothing
could be further from the truth.
General Petraeus fails to mention that
the so-called “violent extremist groups” are
all part of the Global Jihadists Movement
4 2016

(GJM). They, in fact,
are carrying out the
core principles of
Islam as specified
in the Quran, Shariah and the hadiths.
Muslims do not consider Islam to be a
“religion.” They call
it a “complete way
of life.” Clearly, our
leaders need to understand that Islam
is a totalitarian ideology, governed by an alien legal system
called Shariah that obligates all Muslims
to carry out jihad to conquer the world
and subjugate it to Islamic Law. Jihadists
plan to accomplish this by capturing our
“soul” through the use of terror. Not understanding this is how we find ourselves
in our current predicament.
To be clear, the doctrine of Shariah is
not espoused by all Muslims. However,
as pointed out by Andrew Bostom in his
March 15, 2016 article in PJ Media, Shariah supremacism with its hateful bellicosity and bigotry remains regrettably the predominant mindset of the world’s Muslims.
He states, based on the latest available
information, that 77% of Muslims from
the five largest Sunni Muslim populations
and 83% of Shiite Iranians want Shariah
as the law of the land. Furthermore, 91%
of liberated Iraqis and 90% of Afghan
Muslims support Shariah as well. So much
for Muslim help!
Worse yet, Petraeus not so subtly actu-
ally attacked our First Amendment rights
when he expressed his concern over the
current political dialogue that highlights
the threat from Muslims and Islam. This
was unconscionable! He has fallen into
the trap of “Don’t criticize or take a position that might offend” the seventh century sensibilities of the followers of Islam.
Perhaps he forgot that one of the reasons
our military is fighting against the threat
is to protect our Constitution and our
way of life.
By his comments, Petraeus is in effect
is supporting the global campaign to impose Islamic blasphemy law on all nonMuslim societies. This campaign is led by
the 57-member Organization of Islamic
Cooperation and, regrettably, has been
supported by our last Secretary of State,
Hillary Clinton.
Nonetheless, he believes such statements that accurately describe the threat
undermine our ability to defeat “Islamist
extremists by alienating and undermining
the Muslims we need to help us to win.”
Of course, his view is based on his experience in Anbar province. He succeeded
in rolling back AQI in Iraq because he
bought the Anbar Sheikhs with pallets of
shrink-wrapped U.S. dollars. Aside from
the money, the Sunni tribes were tired of
assassinations and atrocities led by Baghdad’s Shiite government and AQI.
When President George W. Bush conducted the invasion of Iraq in 2003, he destroyed the Sunni-Shiite balance of power
by decimating Saddam Hussein’s Sunni
Army. The Iraqi Army was disbanded,
a tragic mistake, because it provided a
trained military to al-Qaeda in Iraq which
eventually morphed into the Islamic State.
Compounding this problem, the U.S.
State Department wrote a new constitution for Iraq that made Shariah the law
of the land under a Shiite government,
a move which was a sure-fire recipe for a
civil war that continues to this day.
It must be understood, Muslims fight to
defend their own family, tribe, clan and,
of course, Islam—not because they think
the Islamic State is somehow “not Islamic” or has hijacked their faith. Likewise,
Sunni governments will use asymmetric
warfare by underwriting influence operations through their many international
organizations, including the migration
of Shariah-compliant Muslims to nonMuslim countries. At the same time, they
allied with us to protect their ruling families and interests by basing our forces in
their countries.
The next president must combat the
current threat by planning strategically
about what’s best for our long term interests and objectives. Clearly, Iran with
its apocalyptic “Twelver” mindset must
be prevented from becoming the regional

nuclear-armed hegemon.
What we are seeing in the Middle East
region is the traditional Sunni-Shia sectarian fight that has gone on for over a
thousand years. We must address the IS
threat in a way that restores the Sunni-Shia
balance in the region while not advancing
Iran’s objectives. However, we should not
expend one more American life to sustain
the regimes in Baghdad and Damascus.
They are puppet governments under Iran’s
control. If Iran wants to keep them in
power, let Iran expand its resources.
We should focus our efforts on enhancing the security of our principal ally in
the region, Israel, as well as the Kurds.
We should be providing the Kurds direct
military aid. Clearly, we need to prevent
the spread of IS into Libya and Tunisia.
Lastly, we need to ensure that freedom of
navigation remains a core principle for
the region.•

Colonel Allen West Talks About Black Lives Matter
By Alex Nitzberg
T
he Black Lives Matter movement
is a tool used by the left to maintain their “…90 percent plus hold
on the black political electorate,” according to Colonel Allen West.
“I think that their whole existence is
just a liberal progressive socialist movement to make sure that they keep the black
community on the 21st century economic
plantation that’s been created by the left.”
While the organization purports to
protest societal discrimination and violence against black Americans, Colonel
West exposed the movement’s hypocrisy
by noting its profound silence on a multitude of issues wreaking havoc in black
communities.
“If it really was about black lives mattering, then they would be in Chicago, they
would be at many of the inner cities, they
would be talking about better education
opportunities, they would be talking about
the fact that since Roe versus Wade there
have been 13 to 15 million black children
who have lost their lives, been killed.”
Colonel West also said that Black Lives
Matter ignores other significant problems,
including the demise of the black family
unit and the necessity of a strong economy
to support business opportunities for black
citizens.
In his estimation, Black Lives Matter’s
politically motivated determination of
which lives matter and its complete failure to discuss crucial issues delegitimize
the organization.
Employing an expression popularized
by Vladimir Lenin, Colonel West identifies Black Lives Matter protestors as “useful
idiots,” describing [1] an activist involved
in a recent incident as “…nothing more
than a progressive socialist political pawn
in an insidious game of distracting the
black community from the failures of pro-
gressive socialism and its horrific adverse
effects.”
When asked what person or group is
pulling the strings to manipulate these
“useful idiots,” he advised, “…follow the
money…it’s coming from the far left progressive movement.”
Colonel West also said that Black
Lives Matter ignores other significant
problems, including the demise of
the black family unit...
James Simpson did just that in AIM’s
report, “Reds Exploiting Blacks: The Roots
of Black Lives Matter.” The report includes
details about the complex web of organizations involved in funding Black Lives
Matter.
Colonel West believes that while the
left’s protest movements change their
name and shift their focus over time, they
remain fundamentally the same: He avers
that Black Lives Matter is “…another iteration of what we saw with Occupy Wall
Street and it’ll morph itself into something
else in the next political cycle.”

I
f Donald Trump needs a new nickname for Hillary Clinton, he might
want to consider calling her “Hypocritical Hillary,” after the Democratic
presidential frontrunner turned down an
invitation from Fox News to debate Bernie Sanders. She said that she wants to
concentrate on campaigning in California, despite saying in 2008 that anyone
running for president should be willing
to “debate anytime, anywhere.”
CBS News congressional correspondent Nancy Cordes addressed Clinton’s
struggles with Bernie Sanders, and her
debate hypocrisy, on CBS This Morning:
“Hillary Clinton can’t shake Sanders,
who predicted Monday that this year’s
convention could get messy and urged her
to debate him ahead of the California primary. The Clinton campaign said no dice,
arguing, ‘Hillary Clinton’s time is best
spent campaigning and meeting directly
with voters across California and preparing
for a general election campaign.’”
“I was disturbed but not surprised to
hear a few hours ago that Secretary Clinton has backed out of the debate,” Sanders
said to a crowd of supporters at a rally in
Santa Monica, California.
The 2016 version of presidential candidate Clinton has conveniently forgotten
what the 2008 version said when she was
running against Barack Obama. Cordes
noted how the 2008 Hillary sounded a
lot like Sanders does today:
“It’s the toughest job in the world. You
should be willing to campaign for every
vote, you should be willing to debate anytime, anywhere.”
That was when Hillary thought she had
nothing to lose by engaging in more debates with Obama, but the opposite is true

ox News’ Bill O’Reilly recently
devoted his Talking Points Memo
to the issue of how the Black Lives
Matter movement has led to a spike in
shootings around the country:
“First, the stats—and they are stunning.
Since the Ferguson chaos, murders in the
USA’s 50 largest cities are up close to 17%,
and much higher in cities with large black
populations. In Chicago for example, this
year alone shootings are up around 80%.
Why? Because the Chicago police have
stopped stopping suspicious people. Socalled pedestrian stops are down 90% in
the Windy City. When you fail to police
pro-actively, people commit more crimes.”
O’Reilly then blames the media for not
talking about who is committing most of
the violent crime in America, thus providing cover for the BLM movement:
“The media will not spotlight that
much of the violent crime in America is being committed right now by
young black men. In fact, black males
between the ages of 14 and 17 commit homicide at a rate 10-times higher
than white and Hispanic male teenagers combined. And blacks of all ages
commit homicide at a rate of 8-times
higher than whites and Hispanics combined. Conclusion—there is a violent
sub-culture in the African-American
community that should be exposed and
confronted. Enter the Black Lives Matter
crew, which roams around the country
promoting a false narrative that American
police officers are actively hunting down
and killing blacks.
Here’s the truth. Police shot whites at
a rate of 50% in 2015. Police shot blacks
at a rate of 26%.”
Racial profiling indeed.
O’Reilly concluded by calling out the
media and others for backing the Black
Lives Matter movement, to the detriment
of the country:
“Summing up, thousands more Ameri-
cans are being murdered because police are
more passive since the Ferguson situation
and the Black Lives Matter protests. Talking Points believes every American should
know the truth. Sympathetic media and
many race hustlers are backing Black Lives
Matter. The final indignity? Members of
the group have even been invited to the
White House.”
If there is any doubt about the goals of
the Black Lives Matter movement, it is
explained on their website:
“Black Lives Matter is a unique contribution that goes beyond extrajudicial
killings of Black people by police and vigilantes. It goes beyond the narrow nationalism that can be prevalent within some
Black communities, which merely call on
Black people to love Black, live Black and
buy Black, keeping straight cis Black men
in the front of the movement while our
sisters, queer and trans and disabled folk
take up roles in the background or not at
all. Black Lives Matter affirms the lives
of Black queer and trans folks, disabled
folks, Black-undocumented folks, folks
with records, women and all Black lives
along the gender spectrum. It centers those
that have been marginalized within Black
liberation movements. It is a tactic to (re)
build the Black liberation movement.”
Watch out if that happens.•
