learned in training. They are the means for the
coach to gauge the progress of the swimmer.

level of YMCA meet participation. SCSC
competes with Rowan Aquatic Club (RAC) in
YMCA and some ‘USA’ meets throughout the
indoor season (Sept-April) and outdoor long
course season (May-July).

recommend a practice schedule that will benefit each child
individually. At the discretion of the Head Coach, Hannah
Hawkins, practice days/times might be altered.
TRAINING FEES
New swimmers receive a 1-week tryout, where they can
attend up to four SCSC sessions in a calendar week at
no cost. All swimming dues have been set per month for
unlimited attendance at practice during designated
days/times and all swim team social events. A small
portion of your fee pays for participation with Rowan
Aquatic Club. Monthly team dues do not include Y
membership fees. Team fees are paid via bank draft
which is set up at the front desk.
Pool and Building Operations
Familiarize your child with the YMCA building and pool
rules. If your child is in the 5th grade or below, they
may not under any circumstances be left in the YMCA
without an adult, except between practice hours.
Swimmers and parents are asked to assist with lane
lines after practices. Please note, in the event of a
storm the pool will be evacuated until 30 minutes after
it has passed. Practice may end early if there is not
time to begin land exercises. If your child is unable to
participate in running or similar activity please pick
them up in the event of a storm. This also includes
swimmers without running shoes.
USA Swimming
Swimmers wanting to compete in USA meets
must register with USA Swimming. The fee is
$100.00 annually, and enables swimmers to
race in USA sanctioned meets. Swimmers will
also receive: two swim caps, a t-shirt, and
SPLASH magazine-a bi monthly USA Swimming
publication for youth swimmers.
SCSC is a YMCA affiliated swim team as
well as a USA swim team. SCSC is able to
offer increased opportunities in terms
of competition, facilities, and fund
raising. More than 1,000 YMCA’s offer
competitive swimming, with more than
50,000 participants involved. Annually
at the Y-Nationals, more than 1,400
children participate, making it the
largest youth swim meet in America.
OPEN DOORS SCHOLARSHIP
OPPORTUNITIES
The YMCA’s Open Doors Scholarship Program
was implemented in 1990. Through this plan, a
sliding fee scale for membership is available
based on need. Proof of gross family income is
