Das Wesentliche in Sanford Meisners Schauspielmethode ist die Partnerbeziehung.
Schauspieler kontrollieren sich zu oft und hören nicht zu. Sobald sie aber ihre
Aufmerksamkeit auf den Partner verlagern, geben sie die Kontrolle durch den Verstand auf
und öffnen sich für das Außen. Zuhören steht auch im Mittelpunkt der Cechov Methode,
hier freilich immer in Kombination mit Imagination und physischer Verkörperung.
Der Workshop kombiniert Meisners Repetition Übungen mit Michail Cechovs
Psychologischer Geste, angewandt auf die Beziehungen zwischen den Bühnenfiguren. Für
Cechov ist der Charakter immer größer als das emotionale Leben des Schauspielers, für
Meisner ist der Schauspieler immer er selbst, in der Situation des Charakters. Dadurch
unterscheidet sich auch die Arbeit an den Beziehungen.
Anhand von Anton Cechovs Stück „Onkel Wanja“ werden wir untersuchen, wie man beide
Perspektiven sinnvoll miteinander verbindet.

Dunja Tot wurde in Zagreb, ehemaliges Jugoslawien, nunmehr Kroatien, geboren. Während des
Krieges in Jugoslawien war sie in der Plattform "Friedensinitiative für den Dialog zwischen den
Völkern in Jugoslawien" tätig.
Ausgebildet wurde sie als Theater- und Filmregisseurin unter anderem in Zagreb, Boston (Harvard
und Boston University) und Berlin (Komische Oper, bei Harry Kupfer). Sie absolvierte ihre
Weiterbildung als Film-Coach in Hollywood, Los Angeles (Jeremiah Comey Studio).
Dunja unterrichtet Meisner bereits seit 15 Jahren und hat ihre Ausbildung als Meisner-Coach bei
Larry Silverberg, USA vervollständigt.
Ihre Regiearbeiten umfassen Sprechtheater, Oper, Musical, Puppentheater, Musiktheater und
Fernsehen.
Seit 1986 lebt und arbeitet sie in Wien, sowohl als Regisseurin als auch als Schauspiel- und FilmCoach. Sie hat auf zahlreichen Schauspielschulen unterrichtet und leitet ihr eigenes
Schauspielstudio "PALLAS". Dunja ist verheiratet, hat eine Tochter und einen kleinen Hund.

Ulrich Meyer-Horsch spielt und inszeniert seit 25 Jahren am deutschen Stadttheater: Theater Kiel,
Theater Lübeck, Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Schauspiel Frankfurt, Maxim Gorki Theater
Berlin, sowie Komödie Düsseldorf, FWT Köln, Hamburger Kammerspiele, Altonaer Theater. Bis
2015 war er stellvertretender Intendant der Kreuzgangspiele Feuchtwangen. Seine Inszenierungen
wurden u.a. mit dem Pegasus Preis ausgezeichnet.
Schauspielausbildung an der Schule für Schauspiel in Hamburg; Diplomstudium der Theologie,
Philosophie und Theaterpädagogik an den Universitäten Heidelberg, Hamburg, Kiel und London
(King’s College). Künstlerische Arbeit mit Simon McBurney & Complicite, Augusto Boal und
Yoshi Oida.
Ulrich Meyer-Horsch wurde von Michael Čechovs direkten Schülern Hurt Hatfield, Deidre Hurst
du Prey, Joanna Merlin und Mala Powers ausgebildet. Er war Lehrbeauftragter an der Zürcher
Hochschule der Künste ZHdK, und unterrichtet heute an der Schule für Schauspiel Hamburg, der
Yeditepe Universität Istanbul sowie der Michael Chekhov Association (MICHA) in New York.
Regiearbeiten, Vorlesungen und Lehraufträge führten ihn außerdem nach Russland, Brasilien,
Japan und Taiwan.

The emphasis in the Meisner Technique is Relationship and Doing. The most important
question is not what do you feel, but what do you want from your partner, and: what do
you do for it. Two major problems actors confront are: observing themselves and not
listening. As soon as you put your whole attention on your partner and listen, you will stop
controlling yourself. You will answer him truthfully.
Listening is also core in the Michael Chekhov Technique. For Chekhov it is part of the
actors’ work with their Imagination and Physical embodiment. Chekhov’s own
performance in Stanislavsky’s class is a good example for his combination of the feeling of
truth with the actor’s imagination: Chekhov was acting out his father’s funeral and
everybody was touched. After finishing, he laughed and said, “My father is alive!” His
father was the element of truth; everything else was the craft of imagination.
In this workshop we will work on scenes and dialogues from Anton P. Chekhov’s play
„Uncle Vanya“. The participants will learn how to put their full attention on their partners,
to act and to listen truthfully, while being fully themselves. They will train how to improve
listening abilities, make specific and bold acting choices, and take risks.

Dunja Tot
Acting teacher and director. Schauspielstudio Pallas, Vienna, Austria
Dunja Tot was born in Zagreb, formerly Yugoslavia, now Croatia. There she studied piano,
philosophy, film and theatre directing. After finishing her studies, she received a Fulbright Grant,
and studied at Boston University in Boston and Harvard University in Cambridge. Being close to
music, she started to specialize, directing opera, musical and post dramatic musical theatre. She
worked with Harry Kupfer, at Komische Oper Berlin. Returning home, she also directed drama
theatre, children’s theatre, puppets and happenings. Her production of Mozart’s “Bastian and
Bastienne” got a prize at the Jerusalem Theatre Festival.
Very early on, Dunja started to direct for the Educational Channel on TV and worked on several
movie productions as an assistant director. Later on she went to Hollywood to specialize in film
coaching, working with Jeremiah Comey.
Parallel to directing, she started to teach. In the middle of her career, she moved to Vienna, Austria.
She continued to direct, coach and teach theatre and film acting. She started to use the Meisner
approach first in the Film School Vienna, being aware that this approach is very useful for film
acting and for working on set. She first met Larry Silverberg when he was teaching in Berlin, and
decided to come to Florida to take his master classes for teachers.
In Vienna, Dunja Tot is professor at the Conservatorium Vienna, Elfriede Ott Acting Academy, and
has her own studio “PALLAS,” where she teaches The Meisner technique and coaches for film and
theatre. Dunja has been married for 45 years, and has one daughter and a little dog.
Ulrich Meyer-Horsch
Actor and Director. Artistic Director of the Michael Chekhov Studio Hamburg, Germany
Ulrich Meyer-Horsch is a well known actor in Germany, having a 25 years experience of
performing at German state and regional theatres, including Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg,
Altonaer Theater, Schauspiel Frankfurt, Theater Kiel, and Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin. Recently
he has been playing the leading part in Goethe’s ‘Faust I+II’ at Forum Theater Stuttgart. He has
worked in several countries, with artists such as Augusto Boal, Simon McBurney & Complicite,
Philippe Gaulier and Yoshi Oida. As an award winning director he is known for his playful
productions of the works of Bertolt Brecht. Until 2015 he served as Associate Artistic Director of
Kreuzgangspiele Feuchtwangen, one of Germany’s biggest summer theatres.
Ulrich Meyer-Horsch holds diplomas in Acting from Schule für Schauspiel Hamburg, and in
Theology, Philosophy and Theatre Pedagogy from the Universities of Heidelberg, Hamburg, Kiel
and London (King’s College).
Ulrich Meyer-Horsch is a Master Teacher of the Michael Chekhov Acting Technique. He studied
with Chekhov’s former students Hurt Hatfield, Deidre Hurst du Prey, Mala Powers and Joanna
Merlin, as well as with master teachers from Germany and Russia. In his own approach he
incorporates the exploration of children’s games and work with masks. Since 1994 he has been
teaching throughout Europe, Russia, Brazil, Japan, Taiwan and the US. He is a guest lecturer at
Yeditepe University Istanbul (Turkey), and a faculty member of the International Michael Chekhov
Association MICHA, New York (USA). 2012 he founded the Chekhov International School, a part
time academy for the performing arts, in Hamburg.
