Little Claremont News Claremont Fan Court School Issue 17 2016/17 — Friday 10 February 2017 Nursery—Rapunzel, Rapunzel let Down your Golden Hair This week, Nursery have been exploring the story of Rapunzel. We have been learning about length and how to order things accordingly. There was lots of discussion about how long Rapunzel’s hair needed to be to reach the bottom of the tower. We have also been plaiting tissue paper to make hair for our amazing Rapunzel paintings. Finally, we have been playing the game ‘I spy’ to support our phonics. The children are progressing well recognising initial sounds of items, especially if they are things that they have encountered at circle time. Many Thanks for your support. Mrs Watson and Miss Westbrook Story Sticks Tell Tales in Pre-Nursery Picture by Milly O Over the past few weeks, Acorns Class have been looking at a range of traditional tales and so we thought we would end the half-term by trying to re-tell a story with the help of a story stick. We read the story ‘Going On A Bear Hunt’ and then went on a woodland walk to collect some materials that would remind us of the story. We taped the materials, in order, to our stick. We then took turns to re-tell the story to Mrs Moor. This week, we have also enjoyed learning how to use the Beebots and even managed to programme them to move to certain squares on our Gingerbread Man story grid. With all the hard work we have done , Mrs Dawes we’re ready for our half-term holiday. Polka Puppets in Year 1 To support Year 1’s creative curriculum theme of ‘Once Upon a Time’, Snowdrops and Daffodils set off to the Polka Theatre on Friday to see a new production of Babe the Sheep Pig. There was as much excitement about the coach trip and the packed lunch as the cultural theatre experience itself! The show was incredibly well acted as well as having amazing hand operated mechanical puppets. The children were inspired to design and create their own hand puppets as part of their Art and DT work this term. The show supported our literacy work on character descriptions and settings as well as being a thoroughly enjoyable morning out. www.claremont-school.co.uk Mrs McChesney and Miss Wilby Specialist Activities in Reception What a busy half term Reception have had.
