Nursery—Rapunzel, Rapunzel let Down your Golden Hair
This week, Nursery have been exploring the story of Rapunzel. We have been learning about
length and how to order things accordingly. There was lots of discussion about how long
Rapunzel’s hair needed to be to reach the bottom of the tower. We have also been plaiting
tissue paper to make hair for our
amazing Rapunzel paintings. Finally, we
have been playing the game ‘I spy’ to
support our phonics. The children are
progressing
well
recognising
initial
sounds of items, especially if they are things that they have
encountered at circle time. Many Thanks for your support.

Story Sticks Tell Tales in Pre-Nursery
Over the past few weeks, Acorns Class have been looking at a range of traditional tales and so we
thought we would end the half-term by trying to re-tell a story with the help of a story stick. We
read the story ‘Going On A Bear Hunt’ and then went on a woodland walk to collect some
materials that would remind us of the story. We
taped the materials, in order, to our stick. We then
took turns to re-tell the story to Mrs Moor. This
week, we have also enjoyed learning how to use the
Beebots and even managed to programme them to
move to certain squares on our Gingerbread Man
story grid. With all the hard work we have done ,
Mrs Dawes
we’re ready for our half-term holiday.
Polka Puppets in Year 1
To support Year 1’s creative curriculum theme of ‘Once Upon a Time’, Snowdrops and
Daffodils set off to the Polka Theatre on Friday to see a new production of Babe the
Sheep Pig. There was as much excitement about the
coach trip and the packed lunch as the cultural theatre
experience itself! The show was incredibly well acted as
well as having amazing hand operated mechanical
puppets. The children were inspired to design and create
their own hand puppets as part of their Art and DT work
this term. The show supported our literacy work on character descriptions and settings
as well as being a thoroughly enjoyable morning out.

Specialist Activities in Reception
What a busy half term Reception have had. For our newsletter this week we would like to tell you
what Badgers and Hedgehogs have been up to with their specialist teachers. In Music with Mrs
Holland, the children have been exploring movement, singing and using percussion with the
theme, over and under the water. We cannot wait to show you these
wonderful songs and dances in our assembly after half term. In outdoor
PE lesson, the children have been learning to control the ball through
dribbling and passing in both basketball and football. In gymnastics, the
children are developing their controlled floor work skills; balancing,
rolling and making shapes. These new skills were then transferred to the apparatus in a
creative form. La pomme est rouge…. Madame Buckingham has been so pleased with how
Reception have learnt to speak in French. Colours, numbers, French salutations have all been taught through actions
and singing. Reception children would like to thank our Music, PE and French teachers for helping them learn new
Miss Bollen and Mrs Ennis
skills in such creative and thoughtful lessons.
Year 2 Navigate the World
This half term, the children have enjoyed learning all about the world around us in our topic ‘active planet’. We have
been learning about weather patterns and seasons, countries
and continents and how the climate is affected by the equator.
This week we have been learning to apply compass directions;
north, south, east, west, north-east, north-west, south-east and
south-west to navigate between countries around the world and
also cities in the UK. The children have thoroughly enjoyed
using the atlases to explore different places and their locations.
Year 2 have been applying their new skills in using compass directions to plan journeys both around the UK and across
Mrs Elmer and Miss Jaques
the world.
