The Tucson JCC and the Tucson Symphony Orchestra present:
Four free interactive chamber ensemble concerts for kids
Tucson, Arizona, December 28, 2016 – The Tucson Jewish Community Center (Tucson J) and the Tucson
Symphony Orchestra (TSO) are joining hands to present the TSO’s Just for Kids series at the Tucson J. These
four programs are in addition to the programs that the TSO presents at the Tucson Symphony Center.
The Tucson J’s series will be performed in the Ballroom and will be FREE and open to the public.
All performances will be held at 2 p.m.
Just for Kids is a popular series of fun, informal, interactive chamber ensemble concerts lasting 45 to 50
minutes. The performances use humor, story-telling, demonstrations and participation to introduce classical
music and orchestral instruments in an entertaining and kid-friendly environment to families including those
with very young children.
February 26, 2017 - Wind Quintet: “The Tortoise and the Hare”
Tonya the Tortoise has lots of great qualities, but speed was not one of them. However, she was about to race
one of the fastest animals she knew - Harriet the Hare! Despite her friends’ doubts, she had a feeling she
might have exactly what was needed to win the race. Who will emerge victorious? Come join the TSO Wind
Quintet for a trio of fables with their new show “Aesop’s Adventures!”
March 26, 2017 - Percussion Ensemble: “Tommy Tom-tom and Chillin’ Willie go to the Zoo”
Our old friends Tommy Tom-tom and Chillin' Willie take a field trip to the zoo, where they encounter and
befriend Magilla Gorilla and Hicupotomous (the friendly hippo). Join us and learn about the sounds of the
animal kingdom.
April 23, 2017 - April 23, 2017 - Piano Trio and friends: Goldilocks and the Three Bears
The Bear family was in an uproar. “This is too, too upsetting!” said Papa Bear. “First food burglars, then chair
breakers. What could be next? I need to go lie down.” Enjoy this delightful retelling of the classic tale
composed by TSO violinist Michael Fan. Goldilocks and the Three Bears receives its first performance with the
TSO since it was premiered by world-renowned clarinetist John Denman in 1997.
May 21, 2017 - Flute Viola Harp Trio: “Pip and the Pirate”
It was graduation day at the Pirate Academy. "Ye be a true Pirate today, matey! Here be yer certificate. Here
be yer parrot." "That's not a parrot" said the new graduate. "She be too small. I wants a big squawker, not a pip
squeaker." "Nay! That be the last one we got. Take 'er or leave 'er." "Please take me," said the tiny bird. I'll
make you proud of me." Join us for this new musical adventure by TSO violinist and composer Michael Fan.
