Ste. Anne Collegiate and Rachel’s Challenge
Back in late October, the Rachel’s Challenge presentation came to Ste. Anne Collegiate and left a profound effect on the students
and staff. The purpose of this program is designed to inspire, equip and empower students at every level to make a difference in
their world. As a part of the debriefing after the presentation, students were polled as to “one thing I can do to be more kind to others in my school”. Those results were tallied, and 3 main themes were identified:
♥ To demonstrate “random acts of kindness” to people in the
school
♥ To break cliques and help all feel a “sense of belonging”
♥ To help new students feel welcome at SAC right away
Based on this feedback, three “Friends of Rachel” clubs were
formed that have been actively involved with several projects.
Welcoming New Students
The FOR club assists new students during their first 2 days at
school:
♥ Greet the student at the bus
♥ Give the student their timetable
♥ Bring them to the office & help them get set up with their
locker
♥ Walk them around the school and take them to their
first class
♥ Pick them up after 1st class and show them to their 2nd
♥ Take them around at lunch & offer to have him/her join
a few of them for lunch
Targets of Kindness
This FOR club promotes several initiatives to demonstrate random
acts of kindness throughout the school and community. In

At monthly Assemblies we review the virtue of the month with all the students. Classes also do presentations
on the virtue of the month at the assembly.
We give out a monthly award to one student per class who demonstrated the virtue of the month.
We have a virtue of the month recognition slip where students who are “caught” showing the virtue of the
month have their picture taken and it goes up on a bulletin board at the office. Their name and what they
demonstrated is read over the PA announcements as well.
A grade 8 student reads quotations about the virtue of the month every morning on the PA announcements.
We send home information about the virtue of the month in the newsletter. We also include activities for
parents to do with their children. Teachers do activities with their class every month on the virtue.
