Element Baby Book Idea in Pictures
We made element baby books. The kids had a blast creating them and
learned a lot about the element they focused on as well as elements in
general!
Cover Design
We got the books from the
Dollar Store, they are baby
photo books. You could make
them yourself with cardboard
sheets and a cover tied
together with ribbons. The
cover has the name for the
element baby, a tin with a 3D
model of the baby (using
Model Magic), and a little blue
plastic pacifier.
Page 1
The first page gives basic
information about the
element baby. Students
incorporated the atomic
weight, state of matter,
discoverer, location of
discovery, and added some
personality traits based on
the traits of the element.
Page 2
This page contains a
pronunciation guide for the
name of the element. There
is also a plastic baby buggy
bought from the dollar store.
It is sold as a baby shower
decoration. We hot glued it
to the 4 x 6 index card.

We created a Birth Certificate
for the third page of our
baby book. Students had to
fill out the information on the
birth certification based on
the information about the
element they found during
their research. We created
the birth certificate template
on Publisher.
Page 4
This page shows the baby
picture of the element baby.
The baby wears a t-shirt with
the atomic number. There is
a small blue clothespin
attached to the page.
Page 5
This page has an acrostic
poem about the element
using the name of the
element. There is a plastic
block glued to the page.
These come in a variety of
colors.
Page 6
This is the “family” page of
the book. It includes the
element baby and the other
elements that are related to
it. We conducted research to
find the information.
Our favorite
resource:
Page 7
The Bohr Model for the
element is on the seventh
page of the baby book. We
used craft beads to
represent the number of
protons. These are hot glued
onto the card.
Page 8
The future profession of the
element baby is shown on this
page. We added a plastic
diaper pin with hot glue to
the page as well.
Page 9
This page contains a photo
gallery of the element. We
added a model magic item
related to the element or the
products that come from the
element.
Page 10
This page has a collection of
items, including a birthday
card that actually opened
with a message and a first
tooth page with a model
magic tooth.
Page 11
We also added an Autograph
Page at the end of the book.
The element babies of other
students signed the page.
A few examples of other
books.
We found the idea for the project on-line. Here is the link:

It is a free activity! We had a great time completing it! Add your own special touches to the
project and your kids will have a blast. We also used the book shown here.
I got five copies of the book from Scholastic (1 per table).
