KINSALE TOUR & CHARLES FORT
Leaving Cork, drive to Kinsale on the southern coast and embark on a brief walking tour with a local guide to learn the history of
the town. Kinsale traces its origins back to 1177 when the Anglo-Normans founded a town in a small walled area close to the
water. It grew as a port town during the 18th century and today the harbor is favored by yachtowners. The town has steep,
narrow streets with many fine Georgian houses. Stop to visit Charles Fort, which was constructed in the late 17th century on
the site of an earlier coastal fortification. Charles Fort is a classic example of a star-shaped fort and William Robinson, architect
of the Royal Hospital in Kilmainham, Dublin, and Superintendent of Fortifications, is credited with designing the Fort. As one
of the largest military forts in the country, Charles Fort has been associated with some of the most momentous events in Irish
history. Then check into your hotel and enjoy some time to relax before dining in the hotel restaurant.
