Creating a Facebook Group

 Troop/Service Unit Facebook
Guidelines
Your girls do so much for the community, it’s only
right that you share their accomplishments with
others through social media. Take a look at the
guidelines below to ensure that your girls have a
great, safe space to share the Girl Scout story!
Create a Group
When creating a social media page, select “create group” in the drop down
menu on your profile’s homepage. By creating a group, there’s an extra layer of
privacy when it comes to the safety of your girls. In addition, creating a group
as opposed to a public page helps to cut down on the amount of GSNETX
pages already on Facebook.
Build a Group
Give your group a name that thoroughly identifies your troop/service unit and
determine the level of privacy you’d like to have. Use this group to invite new
Girl Scout parents, educators, community leaders and others who are
interested in the Girl Scouts organization.
Creating the Look
When creating the look and feel of your group page, it’s always best to stick to
GSUSA brand standards. A Trefoil with your SU/troop number is a great and
simple way for others to identify you. Cover photos are also a neat way to keep
members informed about what’s happening within the council (ex: Early Bird,
cookies, etc.). GSNETX will provide Trefoil profile pictures (upon request –
email [email protected]) and cover photos under the PR Specialist tab.
What can I include on my page?
Think of your troop/SU Facebook group page as
a journal. If they’ve just completed a community
service project, earned a new badge or bridged
to the next program level, those are all great
things to share with your members. It’s also
perfectly fine to share posts from the GSNETX Facebook page within your
group.
Keep In Mind…
 Our girls’ safety is the top priority. If you feel
certain photos, post details, or girl names give
off too much information, don’t feel obligated
to post it.
 Photo Releases: To help protect their
privacy, be sure each girl in your
troop/service unit has a signed Photo
Release Form from home.
 We’re constantly updating the GSUSA/GSNETX
Hashtags Cheat Sheet (located under the PR Specialist tab).
Feel free to use them in your posts!
 Ever heard of Canva? It’s a fun, free tool that allows you to create social
media images! A lot of organizations/companies use Canva for their
social media pages – you can too! www.canva.com
 Social media is fun! Get creative with your posts and help spread the
greatness of Girl Scouts.
