WPA FAWO Wool Training in Australia April 2016
The China Australia Joint Working Group on Wool was originally established in 2007 to investigate
wool contamination issues. The Group has since developed a good working relationship with China
and is now also providing training to Chinese Delegates.
The first China Training Group (from the China Australia JWG) visited Australia in February 2012.
The program included a farm visit at Lal Lal Estate, Victoria, a wool store visit, auction sales, wool
testing and held meetings to discuss various wool industry issues and training.
FAWO members made a presentation on their organisation, explained their role in the supply chain and
provided information both in English and Chinese to delegates. This proved to be very successful for the
Chinese delegates to understand how the Australian wool industry operates. It assisted in their
understanding of trading between the two countries and increased their knowledge on what to buy, test
certificates, NWD, what happens on farm during shearing, wool classing and so on.
FAWO feels that it is important that all members have the opportunity to explain and provide
information to delegates so that they get a better understanding on what happens before they receive the
wool in China. In particular, the importance of the Test Certificates, the National Wool Declaration and
other trading documents such as the Contract - “General Terms and Conditions Governing the
Purchase of Australian Greasy, Scoured and Carbonized Wool, Wool Top and all other Types of Wool
Fibres” which was established by the China Australia Joint Working Group in 2011.
This year training took place immediately following the IWTO Congress in April 2016 in Australia.
Details of the program are below along with photos. The next training will take place in Wuxi, China
immediately following the Nanjing Wool Market Conference from 27 to 28 September 2016 .
