Welcome message
Attendance & Punctuality
You are receiving this on Monday (instead of last Friday) due to a funny end to the week at
Goresbrook: on Thursday, the floods and transport issues made it a challenging day. I am delighted
that so many families battled through challenges to get here; thank you to parents and staff for your
efforts in all directions!
On return to school please bring in a handwritten note or complete the absence form at
the front reception. This is valid for genuine
illness of two days. More than two days absence requires medical proof e.g. a prescription
bottle or a copy of a prescription or even the
appointment card are acceptable.
We ended the week with a fantastic Family Thursday for Storyteller Class. Thank you to families for
coming to celebrate their learning with us!
The teaching team were all visiting excellent schools across London on Friday, in order to learn and
develop our practice here at Goresbrook.
Parent evening
As previously published, a reminder that our next Parent Evening is on Wednesday 6th July. On this
day children finish school at 1:10pm and need to be collected at this time. Unfortunately Sporty
Champs are unable to run a session from 1:10pm due to lack of numbers. Due to Eid, Storyteller class
only will not have their appointments on 6th July. However your child still needs to be collected at
1:10pm on this day. Storyteller appointments will be on Monday 11th and Wednesday 13th July after
school. Nursery parent appointments will take place during the Nursery day in the week beginning 4th
July. Please make sure you have signed up at main reception.
Southend Trip
Letters have gone out this week regarding the Southend Trip on 8th July to Reception and Year 1.
Please ensure you complete the slip and return with your payment by Thursday 30th June to main
reception. Please do not leave slips/money in rucksacks. If you are interested in applying to volunteer
on this day please see details in the letter. Thanks to your suggestions we will be taking the children in
full PE kit for the Southend trip. This includes the Goresbrook PE t-shirt and sweatshirt, plain navy
jogging bottoms or shorts and plain black trainers or plimsolls. No branded sportswear is allowed.
After-School Clubs shows
Gymnastics, dance, ballet and music clubs will be putting on a performance to parents at 4:15pm next
Thursday 30th June, please do come along if you can. Children who are not normally in clubs on this
evening but are part of the performance will be in club free of charge for this night only, please inform
[email protected] if your child cannot stay behind for the show. Clubs will end
at 4.45pm as normal. Performing arts will be doing their show on Monday 11th July at 4.30pm.
Vacancies
We have job opportunities currently on our website, please follow the link if you are interested in
applying or know someone who is. Current roles are: Attendance and Welfare Officer, Maths Teacher
and Maths Teaching Fellow, Secondary Administrator, Learning Mentor.

Volunteering opportunities
We have a volunteering opportunity for someone to come in each afternoon to help Mrs Mehmet
with administration to support learning. This will involve making labels, laminating, doing displays and
sticking children’s work in books. Please see Miss Munday if you are interested. A DBS check paid by
the school will be required.
We are also looking for a Parent/Carer who is willing to volunteer as our school photographer on trips,
visits and events such as sports day, Christmas shows, Family Fridays and so on. If you are interested
please speak to Miss Darley. You will need to have a DBS check which the school will pay for.
Sports Day
Sports Day is on Tuesday 12th July. The event will begin at 1:30pm at Barking Rugby Club, on Gale
Street, but we are inviting parents and carers to meet us at school at 1:15pm where they can accompany staff and children on the walk over to the Rugby Club. The event will finish at 3:15pm when children will return to school to collect any belongings before being dismissed as normal. After-school
clubs will run as normal.
On the day, we ask that children come to school in their PE kits from 8:30am – not their normal
school uniform. Please ensure they have their Goresbrook PE shirts and jumpers, as well as plain navy
blue shorts or tracksuit bottoms and plain black trainers or plimsolls. If a child is not in the correct PE
kit, they will not be able to participate in the event. In addition, please ensure they have their water
bottles for us to take over for the afternoon. These will be replenished at lunch time to ensure children have enough water.
Please ensure children have had sun cream applied before they come to school as staff cannot do this.
You may wish to send in a sunhat on this day as there is little shade at the Rugby Club, but there are
toilet facilities that children will be able to use, if needed.
On the day, children will take part in a series of events in mixed year groups. We look forward to
celebrating the sporting prowess of our children with parents and carers there to support in a friendly
and supportive manner. There will also be a parents’ and staff race!
If your child is up and about at home then they
are generally well enough to be at school. If
your child is too ill to attend school please ensure you phone 0203 597 6666 as soon as possible that morning and every day that they are
absent.
A reminder for collection in the afternoons: If
you collect your child more than 10 minutes
late on three occasions in a half term, we are
required to charge you £10.00. As per our policy, any further instances of lateness in that half
term will incur a charge of £10.00 per occasion.

School entrance area & scooters/bikes
Thank you for your help this week keeping children safe on site; it is working much
better with no scooters or bikes being ridden near the gates.
A reminder that children must be supervised closely by parents whilst waiting outside
the school gates. The road area is a potential hazard, and the pathway is not part of
Goresbrook School. Please ensure your child gets off their scooter or bike as they pass
the grey security hut. After that point they need to walk alongside their scooter or bike.
On leaving school/nursery please do not allow children to scoot until they reach the
grey hut.
Please be mindful that scooters and bikes can travel at speed and are exiting onto the
main road near Goals. Please keep your children close by and do not let them go ahead
of you. Children should be holding your hand at all times. Parents must hand their
children directly to Nursery staff at the gate at drop off.
