DEFINITION Under general supervision, to support Parent Engagement Specialist in developing and facilitating parent engagement initiatives at the district and school level and generally provide a broad range of liaison duties between schools district-wide and the community; assist parents in understanding district programs and goals, and assist the district in maintaining contact and communication with the parents it serves; to do related work as may be required. CLASS CHARACTERISTICS Positions in this class report to the Coordinator of English Learner Support Services and perform their duties without close supervision and are responsible for promoting the education programs and goals of the district by performing the liaison duties and activities necessary to effectively integrate district and community needs. Encourages educational support and community engagement in parents. Assists families to understand their opportunities and responsibilities that empower them to be advocates for quality education. Community Liaison Page three EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Assists the Parent Engagement Specialist in promoting and conducting a variety of parent education training modules. Delivers a variety of parent engagement programs, meetings and workshops focusing on student and family needs. Works with parent leaders to recruit volunteers for district parent engagement projects as needed. Encourages parents to participate in parent engagement activities required by federal and state regulations and aligned to the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP). Contacts parents in the district community, in person, by phone or by email, providing information to the parents about schools and their programs. Promotes a positive relationship between home, school and community. Maximizes district utilization of available community resources. Makes referrals to community agencies to meet the diverse needs of our families within our district. Encourages parental school engagement and promotes attendance and participation in workshops, meetings, and advisory committees. Refers parents for community-based services. Maintains records of referrals made. May perform a variety of related clerical and typing duties.
