Looking for inspiration about Reading Rooms?
The following excerpt is from “Reaching the seekers through prayer today” by Lois Biesterfeldt (The
Christian Science Journal, June 2017):
It brings me particular happiness when these ideas reach newcomers sincerely searching for a
healing truth that lies beyond their day-to-day sense of themselves. I’ve found it especially
fruitful, when yearning to connect with those searchers, to revisit what Mrs. Eddy writes about
Christian Science being for “all mankind” (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 252).
To read more about how this writer reached honest seekers through prayer in her Reading Room, and
several more articles about Reading Rooms, visit the “Inspiration” section of the “Reading Room
resources” page and click on “Related articles on JSH-Online.”
You can also visit the “Communications and events” section to listen to a replay of our most recent
Worldwide Reading Room inspiration and fruitage celebration webinar.
Coming Soon! New Open Doors eBulletin distribution channel
At the end of June, Open Doors will be arriving in your inbox via a new email management tool. While
we make this transition we plan to take this opportunity to clean up our [email protected]
distribution list. What this means is that if you wish to continue to receive this newsletter in your
email box, you will need to take a moment to opt in to receive it. Please fill out this form with your
email address to continue to receive Open Doors. Do not write “yes.” The form does not collect your
email address unless you enter it.
EVENTS (including training and webinars)
Reading Room Webinars
Please join us for our next Worldwide Reading Room Fruitage and Inspiration Celebration webinar on
Thursday June 29, 2017 at 2:00 pm Boston time. We would love to hear how you have been praying
about your Reading Room and the positive results of this prayer. Submissions will be read in a similar
way to how testimonies are shared during the Wednesday online services at The Mother Church. You
may email your submission to [email protected].
1
Submissions will be reviewed and edited for clarity and brevity. In the subject line, please put “June 29
Webinar Submission.” Please keep your submission to approximately 3000 characters or less so that
we will have the opportunity to share as many submissions as we can, and include the name of your
church as well. If you wish to keep information relating to your submission confidential, please indicate
that you’d prefer us not to read your name and/or church.
We will be accepting your submissions for sharing from now until the morning of Tuesday June 27,
2017. Register here for the June 29 webinar.
If you missed the Writing for the Periodicals Webinar on April 20, the replay of it is available.
If you missed the Hymnal 2017 Webinar on May 4, the replay of it is available.
If you missed the Pioneering Publishing with the Herald on May 25, the replay of it is available.

Approved Providers Program (date of first announcement 5/16/2017)
We are pleased to announce that we will begin testing a new source of Reading Room display materials
called the Approved Providers Program, which will offer materials that are in addition to those already
available in the Reading Room Wholesale Shop.
The Approved Providers Program is being created to allow The Mother Church to more nimbly and
efficiently approve individuals and companies in the Field (who will be known as Approved Providers)
to create original display materials (mostly topical) as well as to print CSPS-produced promotional
materials for Reading Rooms.
More information about this program and a list of current Providers can be viewed by going to
2
Resources for librarians and looking under the “Displays and promotional materials” drop-down.
Please stay tuned to this section and future e-Bulletins as we add new Providers to our list.

NEW: Concordance to the CHRISTIAN SCIENCE HYMNAL: HYMNS 430-603 (date of first
announcement 6/12/2017)
We’re so pleased to announce that this Concordance is now available as a, free, downloadable PDF.
It’s an easy-to-use reference guide that enables you to locate where key words appear in the
new Christian Science Hymnal: Hymns 430-603.
This free downloadable PDF document can be printed out (60 pages).
Alternatively, it can be downloaded and used on your computer.


It is searchable (PCs: Control+F or MACs: Command+F).
The integration of the new hymns into Concord is a priority for the Concord team. More
information will be available in the fall about those plans. Currently only the hymns from the
1932 Hymnal and the 2008 Supplement are included in the Concord program.
For your convenience, here is a tutorial video about using the Reading Room Wholesale Shop and
downloading materials.
NEW: 2017 Hymnal (date of first announcement 4/28/2017)
It is with great joy that we share details about the release of the Christian Science Hymnal: Hymns 430–
603, as well as several related new products. Due to incredible demand, our first run of the new
3
Hymnal is sold out. They are being printed again, and we anticipate them arriving in the warehouse
for shipment in July. We are accepting back orders.
Throughout the development of this hymnal we’ve heard from so many people about the importance
of hymns to their practice of Christian Science. In addition to a profound love for the 1932 Christian
Science Hymnal, many expressed an interest in new forms of musical expression. Generations of
Christian Scientists have found inspiration and comfort in the healing messages of the 1932 Hymnal,
and this new volume joins that beloved hymnal as a source of metaphysical uplift. The 2017 Hymnal
enhances and expands the songs we worship and pray with. Each day we gather fresh inspiration and
insights in response to our prayer. Similarly we have the opportunity to embrace new prayers in song.
All our hymns support the healing outreach of our services as we sing together with one voice,
worshipping God with joyful hearts.
The 2017 Hymnal includes contemporary hymns, traditional hymns, and hymns from around the
world––174 in all, including 30 from the 2008 Supplement. Of special interest are several hymns that
set to music poems first published in The Christian Science Journal and the Christian Science Sentinel, as
well as 17 new settings of poems by Mary Baker Eddy. The hymns that were previewed in the Sentinel
over the last several years, as well as on JSH-Online, give a sampling of the diverse collection that will
soon be available. (https://jsh.christianscience.com/hymnal-supplement)
We’re enormously grateful to the many people who’ve supported this project, as well as for the
generous support of the Leon Willard Briggs Fund, whose purpose is to support and advance musical
offerings in Christian Science branch churches and societies.
The details below will help you plan the best way for your branch church to begin using the new
Hymnal––how many books you will need, and what other products might be helpful as you explore
including these hymns in your church services.
