The Brazil World Cup 2014 will be the 20th FIFA World Cup to
have taken place and it will be the second time that Brazil has
been the host nation, the previous time being in 1950, and it’s the
first time that the soccer tournament has been hosted in South
America since 1978, when it was held in Argentina.
Next to the Olympics, it’s probably the second largest
international sports event in the world and 31 country’s national
teams will battle it out in a total of sixty four matches played
across twelve different cities in Brazil to win the coveted Worlds
Cup trophy. The FIFA World cup in Brazil will be watched by
millions of people around the globe as they cheer on their home
team and England fans will have at least the group matches to
get excited about it. So, while every nation's hopes are still high,
here are some facts about the square World Cup 2014 you may
not have known about.
The mascot of the upcoming World Cup is Fuleco,
the Brazilian three-banded armadillo who also goes by the
nickname tatu-bola. The World Cup Brazil Fuleco character
is 14 years old and is born on the 1st of January 2000. He
likesdancing, social media, Brazilian music and is dedicated
to protect Brazil’s spectacular nature. His name is derived
from Futebol (football) and Ecologia (ecology): Fuleco.
Fuleco is an ambassador for making the World Cup
environment friendly. He is the 6th animal mascot featuring
in a World Cup.
The World Cup 2014 logo (official emblem) was
officially introduced on the 8th of July 2010 in
Johannesburg. The logo named Inspiration has
been created by Brazilian design agency Africa.
The design contains 3 hands holding the World
Cup trophy which symbolizes unity, harmony and
the warm Brazilian welcome to the world. The
colors green and yellow define Brazil, which
reflect the colors of the national flag.
The World Cup is a gold trophy that is awarded to
the winners of the FIFA World Cup Association
Soccer tournament. Since the advent of the World
Cup in 1930, two trophies have represented victory:
the Jules Rimet Trophy from 1930 to 1970, and
the FIFA World Cup Trophy from 1974 to the present
day.
