Reflection: Next week has been declared World Catholic Education Week. The theme for Catholic Education Week this year is “Opening Doors to Mercy”. Next
Thursday our Kindergarten to Gr.4 students will gather at 9:15 a.m. and our Gr.5 to Gr.8 students will gather at 10:00 a.m. to celebrate the Liturgy focusing on this theme.
Did you know that in many provinces, families must pay tuition to send their children to Catholic schools because their provincial governments provide limited or no
funding for Catholic education? Saskatchewan, Alberta and Ontario are the only provinces in Canada where Catholic education is funded publicly.
In the Greater Saskatoon Catholic School Division, Catholic education was established in Saskatoon in 1911. Our Catholic school division has had a proud tradition of
providing a quality Catholic education. Today we continue to prepare students for tomorrow by providing them with numerous opportunities to enrich their faith and grow
in their relationship with God and with each other. We are proud of all past and present students, families, staff, religious and clergy who made and continue to make our
schools special places in which to learn and grow. As we celebrate Catholic Education Week, let us be thankful for the many gifts God has bestowed on us and let us
recognize that we all have a part to play in continuing to enrich our Catholic schools, our church, our community, not only for the present generation but for future
generations as well.
SCHOOL LUNCHES - HEALTHY HUNGER
Our next school lunch will be from Subway on Thursday, May 19th. You will be able to order on line and pay on line through Healthy Hunger. All orders must be placed

FAMILY FUN NIGHT

an evening with our school community!
WORLD CATHOLIC EDUCATION WEEK
The Catholic Bishops of Saskatchewan would like to recognize Thursday, May 5, 2016 as World Catholic Education Day. On this day Catholics across the globe give
thanks for the gift of Catholic Education, and we joyfully celebrate the unique identity and distinctive contributions of Catholic Education in the lives of people around the
world. This year’s theme for World Catholic Education Day is “Catholic Education: Opening Doors of Mercy.” Our school liturgies will be on May 5th at 9:15 a.m. for Gr. K4 and 10:00 a.m. for Gr. 5-8.
BAND INFORMATION NIGHT
Parents and grade 5 students who are interested in joining band in September 2016 are invited to attend meetings on either Thursday, May 5th at Holy Cross High
School, 7:00 p.m. OR Wednesday, May 11th at E.D. Feehan High School, 7:00 p.m. Information will be sent home with grade 5 students in a Band Information Night
flyer, or can be found on the GSCS website: http://www.gscs.sk.ca/studentsandfamilies/curriculum/Pages/ArtsEducation.aspx
ST. PETER SCHOOL BADMINTON CLUB
Badminton Club begins on April 26th and runs until May 19th for grade 7 and 8. The club runs Monday to Thursday from 3:30 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. in the gym. Parents please
watch for a note that was sent home on April 20th – if your child signed up. Students sign up for one day per week and play just for fun.
TOY DONATIONS
Our Kindergarten and Gr. 1 classes are looking for any toy donations (pails, shovels, trucks, tractors, etc.) to use on the creative playground in the sand. All
donations can be dropped off at the office. Thank you in advance for your donations.
STUDENT SAFETY
It is important to pay attention to our traffic signs in front of the school to keep our students safe. Our school buses have a designated location directly in
front of our school. Please do not park by or on the pedestrian walkway and stay clear of the school bus zone. There is 5 minute parking in front of the
school to avoid picking your child up in the middle of the street. Also, please refrain from picking up or dropping off your children using the staff parking lot
as this creates challenges regarding student safety. Take time to remind your children to cross the street at the crosswalk or consider dropping your child off or picking
them up on the school side of the street to avoid having your child cross the street. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in keeping all our students safe. U-Turns
in school zones, whether at an intersection or not, are illegal - $90 fine.
SCHOOL ARRIVAL REMINDER
Students are welcome to go to their classrooms at 8:30 a.m. each morning. If your child has to arrive at school earlier than this time they are welcome to attend the
Before & After School Program (244-7820). We ask that students do not arrive at school prior to this time so adequate supervision is available. Supervision on the
playground begins at 8:40 a.m. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
STORY AND A SNACK
Story and a Snack will be held, in the St. Peter school library, Wednesday mornings at 8:30 a.m. Students are welcome to join Mrs. Thompson (teacher-librarian) in the
story corner of the library, to listen to two stories. Once the stories are read, the students receive a snack and then are expected to return to their classrooms by 8:55
a.m. Story and a Snack is a St. Peter School tradition, which promotes literacy, and builds community. "The more you read, the more you will know, the more places
you will go.” Dr. Seuss
