What We’re Doing
As part of its ongoing philanthropy, Alfred Music teamed up with KALA Brand
Music Company for National MakeMusic Day on June 21, 2016 and donated
over 1,300 copies of “It’s Ukulele Time” to be distributed at sponsored ukulele
mass events across the country. Additionally, Alfred Music supplied the rights
to eight songs for guitar mass events booklet that was distributed to 5,000
participants nationwide.
Alfred Music was happy to provide product support to Operation: Music Aid,
a non-profit organization, based in Madison, CT whose mission is to secure
musical instruments of all types in order to help aid in the rehabilitation of our
valiant men and women who have been wounded while serving their country. Alfred Music teamed up with Ukuleles for Ukraine, a California based non-profit
charity, as they supplied four children’s homes with clothing, school materials,
medicine, and instruments. Alfred Music gave 95 Daisy Rock Girls’ Guitars to give
music lessons and improve the children’s confidence and creativity.
Alfred Music continues to donate hundreds of copies guitar materials to GAMA
(The Guitar & Accessories Marketing Association), for their summer workshops.
These workshops teach music educators how to start or enhance classroom
guitar programs and deliver more music making opportunities to children.
Alfred Music, in collaboration with The ASCAP Foundation, delivered more than
$14,000 of music curriculum and performance music to more than 40 school
ensembles across the U.S., in support of the VH1 Save The Music Foundation.
Alfred Music continues to donate percussion materials to PAS (Percussive Arts
Society), for their national Day of Percussion events. These “mini-PASICs” draw
in local musicians, educators, students and enthusiasts for a day or weekend of
performances, competitions, clinics and master classes.
Alfred Music joined other NAMM members for the NAMM Music Education
Advocacy D.C. Fly-In, May 23-26, 2016. Alfred Music was proud to support
this annual event with $2600 worth of product as it advances NAMM’s core
advocacy theme: music education and legislation that advances access to
music education for all children.
Alfred Music donated 46 turkeys to the Los Angeles Mission to help those in
need have food for Easter.
Alfred Music was proud to be a part of SBO’s 15th Annual student scholarship
essay contest, themed, “How Your Music Class Prepare You For Life,” by

What We’re Doing
Alfred Music was once again a proud supporter of Hit Like A Girl Contest, the
fifth annual global drumming contest for female percussionists. Produced in
conjunction with founding sponsors DRUM! Magazine, TRX Cymbals, and Tom
Tom: The Magazine of Female Drummers, its purpose is to spotlight female
drummers and encourage drumming and lifelong musicianship for girls and
women, regardless of age or playing level.
During Music in Our Schools Month, Alfred Music was proud to support
Heid Music’s Big 10 contest by donating $250 worth of band scores to the
winning schools.
Alfred Music was a proud sponsor of Los Angeles City Elementary Schools
Music Association’s 75th Anniversary celebration. LACESMA, a non-profit 501(c)
(3) organization, promotes excellence in elementary music education
at the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD).
“Healing Newtown through the Power of the Arts” program (arts space, classes,
workshop, performances, art & music therapy, events) was founded in the wake
of the devastating events in Sandy Hook on December 14th of 2012. Through
the HealingNewtown Program and other projects, The Newtown Cultural
Arts Commission is dedicated to providing concerts, events, performances,
workshops and classes geared toward helping the community continue to
move past this event in a healthy, healing manner. Alfred Music is honored to
donate materials to this community to support their efforts in healing through
music and arts.
Alfred Music worked with Antonio Violins, along with other dealers, to help
Melodic Connections replace much needed sheet music after a flood where
they lost nearly everything. The non-profit organization based in Cincinnati, OH
provides community music therapy services to individuals with developmental
disabilities as they believe that each voice is unique and every voice should be
heard. Alfred Music donated guitar, ukulele, piano, and classroom books for
their programs. In July 2016, flooding hit the small community of Richwood, West Virginia,
leaving the town a federal disaster area and their school’s music room with
four muddy walls. The school’s choir program has grown from nothing to over
180 students in just five short years. Alfred Music worked with Kerr’s Music to
donate nearly $1,500 worth of choral music so that these students had sheet
music when they returned to school.

America’s most famous bandmaster, John Philip
Sousa. This interactive software CD-ROM is a oneof-a-kind resource told with engaging illustrations
and age-appropriate vocabulary, which can be read from each screen and heard with each page turn. Professionally
voiced narration guides users through JP’s adventure while background music and entertaining sound effects immerse
students in the story as they follow along. Utilizing flash technology compatible with individual computers and interactive

Students will love learning about music history with JP’s Sousaphone!
Music Symbol Parade is sure to be a hit with students and teachers alike! These adorable 9” x 12” cardstock posters
are more than just a delightful decoration—they’re also a fabulous teaching tool. Playful illustrations depict music signs
and symbols, while concise definitions clearly explain each term. Each poster is an eye-catching delight! A tiny mouse
represents pianissimo, a lion roars for fortissimo, a snail is largo, and a hammer shows marcato just to name a few.
Dynamics, articulations, tempo headings, clefs, accidentals, and more are also included to help students understand
complex musical terms in a fun, easy-to-use format.
Once Upon a Music Class: Fairy Tales, Folk Tales, and Nursery Rhymes is the story of a hardworking music teacher
determined to slay the dragons of student doldrums. She looked far and wide for meaningful, yet entertaining lessons
that would engage her students while addressing the Common Core music standards. One day, she happened upon a
set of enchanting books filled with folk tales, fairy tales, nursery rhymes, myths, legends, and more. As they dove into
the grade-appropriate literature and music activities, her students became active musicians and lived happily ever after!
Each volume of Once Upon a Music Class includes 20 lessons, complete with objectives, procedures, reproducible
student pages, and all necessary recordings. Volume 1 is recommended for grades Pre-K through two and Volume 2 is

Vocal Collection Showcasing the “Father of American Music”
Los Angeles, CA—January 2017
Alfred Music, the leading publisher in music education since 1922, is happy to announce the release of The Stephen
Foster Collection for solo voice and piano arranged by Mark Hayes. This stunning collection features 10 favorite early
American songs in medium high and medium low voice editions.
Often referred to as the “Father of American Music,” Stephen Collins Foster penned some of America’s most enduring
songs. Background information by Kathleen Ballantyne is included illuminating each song’s significance and its historical
roots. This exquisite collection offers piano/vocal arrangements of some of his most well-known songs such as “Beautiful
Dreamer,” “Oh! Susanna,” “Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair,” and many more.
Beautifully arranged, Mark Hayes adds his touch to this quintessential repertoire perfect for recitals, concerts, and
contests. Every song is thoughtfully arranged creating the perfect platform for a uniquely expressive performance.
“Camptown Races,” one of Foster’s earliest hits, is one of 10 iconic and beloved classics included in The Stephen Foster
Collection. Energetic and playful, “Camptown Races” embodies the illicit excitement of betting on horse racing, while
Hayes incorporates some humor as the verse plods along with frequent stops and starts before settling into a jaunty
waltz feel at the chorus. Both medium high and low voice editions can also be purchased with an accompaniment CD
including all 10 tracks performed by Mark Hayes.
The Stephen Foster Collection is available for $26.99 at music retail stores, online retailers, and alfred.com.
Review copies are available upon request.
