# 2091 14” Mod Bowl
Fun Strokes
FS 2309 Red Rover
FS 2314 Black Lab
FS 2315 What-a-Yolk
FS 2349 Tweety Bird
FS 2368 Old yeller
Brushes & other Materials
6676 Script Liner
6565 Long Shader 1/2”
6571 Soft Fan Brush
Fun Writer filled with Red Rover
Small flower paper punch
Owl Cut Outs
Westinghouse Mini Pendant Light Kit # 7087( available at Home Depot)
Directions:
Step 1- Drill a hole 1 ¾” diameter using a dremel tool with a carbide ceramic tile
cutting bit at the bottom center of the bowl for the light kit to fit. That is the size to
cut if you are using the light kit we used above.
Step 2 - Using the soft fan brush, apply 3 coats of What-a-Yolk to the inside and
the outside of the bowl. Wipe off the lip of the bowl with a damp sponge so it is
just the bisque showing.
Step 3 - Apply paper owl cut outs (2 ½” size) to the center area going around the
entire bowl (refer to the paper technique below). Also punch out little flowers
from a paper punch and apply to the top area of the bowl as seen in photo. (note:
when applying the paper owls to the bowl remember to flip the bowl so the owls
are in the right direction for a lamp).
Step 4 - Once you have the paper owls and the small flowers on the bowl, apply
3 good coats of Red Rover to the entire outside of the bowl using the soft fan
brush. Peel off paper after the Red Rover is dry to the touch.

Step 5 - Apply stripes using the ½” shader brush and a banding wheel. Starting
closest to the rim is Black Lab, then Tweety Bird, and then Old Yeller. Above the
owls is Old Yeller using the liner brush and then Black Lab using the ½” shader.
Step 6 - Use the Fun Writer bottle with the Red Rover add some small half-moon
marks on the bellies of all the owls.
Step 7 - Dip into clear glaze and fire to cone 06.
Step 8 - Attach the light pendant.
Special Notes:
General information about the paper technique: The paper has to be applied
with a glaze under it as in this technique. It can not stick directly to bisque
because when the bisque dries it will fall off. Also the paper must be wet in order
for it to stick to the glaze. When using smaller paper pieces you can dip right into
the water, apply, and use a sponge to dab off the excess. If the paper stencil is
large you won’t be able to dip it into the water because it will be to flimsy.
Instead, you will need to use a soft fan brush and wet the brush and apply it to
the area that you’ll be putting the pattern on. Do this lightly so you don’t mess
the design, then dab it with the sponge to remove excess water. This technique
doesn’t work well if the paper is applied to wet glaze from recent application.
Glaze must be dry to the touch. (If you want to do this technique right onto the
bisque without any color you would need to use contact paper instead of regular
copy paper.
