One Rainy Monday Words and Music by Alan Simmons Perhaps it’s my imagination, But it always seems to rain on Monday; Whatever the place or time of year, However you feel it’s plain That when Monday’s around You can bet it’ll tum to rain; He’s getting quite a reputation, And it always casts a gloom on Sunday; It could be a game that Monday plays To fool all the days to come, And he plays it so well That I’m sure he succeeds with some; Ah but not me, Rainy Monday can’t fool me! If I believed more than one day Could be half as bad The future would be bleak; No, there’s just one rainy Monday in the week. The rain upon my bedroom window Tries to tell me I’m not really dreaming; And if I believed, then who could say What problems would soon begin; Am I really a fool and so easily taken in? No not me, Rainy Monday can’t fool me! I don’t believe all the rumours That a rainy day can put inside my head; I’m gonna wait An’ see what Tuesday’s like instead; An’ I’ll just spend rainy Monday At home in bed. www.alansimmonsmusic.com This is licensed for use by this school for the Surrey Arts Festival - any other use, performance or copying is stricly prohibited. Cool King Words and Music by Alan Simmons There are serious problems with the state of the nation, The good king’s suffering from poor circulation, His ears are both fine and there’s colour in his nose But there’s nothing getting through to the old boys toes! We need ideas and we need inspiration, We’ll rewrite the rules, introduce legislation, We’ll find a way to produce more heat In his arms, in his legs, but especially in his feet. ‘Cos he’s a cool king; It’s a weird, It’s a crazy It’s a curious thing, So we’ll all bring Something rosy Something cosy Something neat For his feet! In a week and a day, this will be our resolution, We’ll bring to the king every possible solution, And when we next appear at the bottom of the street You can bet we’ll have a cure for the king’s cold feet Cos he’s a cool king; It’s a weird, It’s a crazy It’s a curious thing, So we’ll all bring Something rosy Something cosy Something neat For his feet! www.alansimmonsmusic.com This is licensed for use by this school for the Surrey Arts Festival - any other use, performance or copying is stricly prohibited. Nothing to Do Words and Music by Alan Simmons Nothing to do, nothing to say, Watching the world just float away; Nobody speaks, nobody answers, Nobody chances Passing the time of day with me; Group 1 Nothing to do, nothing to say, Watching the world just float away; Nobody speaks, nobody answers, Nobody chances Passing the time of day with me; Group 2 Nothing to see tonight, How will it be tonight Without a conversation Helping to keep me awake? Tonight, Nothing to do tonight, Nothing to say tonight, No one to pass the time of day with me. Nobody happens to see, So I just stay here, Every night every day here, Simply watching the clouds go by, Wondering when will I Feel a warmth and a glow Once again, but I know Until then there’s Group 1 Nothing to do, nothing to say, Watching the world just float away; Nobody speaks, nobody answers, Nobody chances Passing the time of day with me; Group 2 Nothing to see tonight, How will it be tonight Without a conversation Helping to keep me awake? The Road to Home Words and Music by Alan Simmons Where will you go tonight? Where will you go tonight? I see the rain falling hard and long, I hear the wind sing a mournful song, And feel the chill of the mist along Your way. And in the morning light, And in the morning light, Don’t stay too long when your journey ends; Although it’s steep and it winds and bends The road to home is the best of friends To me. Don’t take your time, It gets so lonely when you’re gone; Don’t stay away too long. Don’t take your time, Just hurry back where you belong, Don’t stay away, Come home. Will you be home tonight? Will you be home tonight? I find the waiting so hard to bear Watching the road till I see you there; And when the night falls still wond’ring where You are. I see the rain falling hard and long, I hear the wind sing a mournful song And feel the chill of the mist along Your way. Don’t take your time, It gets so lonely when you’re gone; Don’t stay away too long. Don’t take your time, Just hurry back where you belong, Don’t stay away, come home. www.alansimmonsmusic.com This is licensed for use by this school for the Surrey Arts Festival - any other use, performance or copying is stricly prohibited. Black Diamond Words and Music by Alan Simmons Deep down under the hillside, Deep down hidden from sight; Where the world is in darkness, A fright’ning sort of a night; This is where we can find it, Where the paths of the underworld meet; All we need are the tools of the trade, Just a pick and a shovel and a pounding beat; Dig until your arm is aching, Dig until your back is breaking; Nose to the ground, Don’t stop till you’ve found Black diamond.......... Nose to the ground, watch for the glow, Till we have found, deep down below, That dark mysterious black diamond. Dig until your arm is aching, Dig until your back is breaking; Nose to the ground, Don’t stop till you’ve found Black diamond.......... Nose to the ground, watch for the glow, Till we have found, deep down below, That dark mysterious black diamond. www.alansimmonsmusic.com This is licensed for use by this school for the Surrey Arts Festival - any other use, performance or copying is stricly prohibited. We’ve got the answer if you do as we say, Become a dancer, you’ll be warm right away, Get it together! If You Feel Like Dancing Words and Music by Alan Simmons If you feel like dancing tap you feet (tap * *) It’s the thing to do with ev’ryone you meet; In the city every fella With his bowler and umbrella With his pin-stripe smart and dapper Looks so neat; Under normal circumstances He’s a man who never dances, But when sometimes he’s a little indiscreet, (What does he do?) He taps his feet. If you feel like whistling along To the chorus of a catchy little song; Like the farmer when he’s tilling Or the dentist when she’s drilling, Like the ringers when they’re ringing Ding-a-dong; And the policeman on the beat With his size eleven feet Doesn’t worry if the tune is right or wrong, (What does he do?) He whistles along. When the world is dark and grey And it’s such a mis’rable day, Keep a little bit of rhythm in your dancing shoes Just in case the moment takes you and you can’t refuse, O - oh, I’ve got the rhythm in my shoes! If you feel like dancing (etc....) I feel as if I’m ready to dance, Let’s try, I think I might take a chance, Find my feet, Keep a gentle beat, I’ll be sure to do it, There’s nothing to it! Watch me go, Dancing fast and slow, I’ll be dancing on air Like Fred Astaire!
