Can existing CEN/TC 250 SC/WG
convenors apply to become a PT leader
and/or member?
Response
Yes, however, if successful, it will be necessary
for the applicant to resign the convenorship of
a related subordinate group where this is
necessary to avoid a conflict of interest.
As stated in 3.6 of Volume 3, subordinate
groups, such as sub-committee working groups,
may be delegated responsibilities for the
review of draft deliverables. There is therefore
a risk of a conflict of interest if an individual is
responsible for leading a review of their own
work.
To avoid restricting the responsibilities that can
be delegated to a working group and/or
minimize the risk of a perceived conflict of
interest, some sub-committees may insist that
a successful applicant resigns their
convenorship of a related subordinate group.
In other cases, particularly in highly specialist
areas, this may not necessarily apply.
Individual situations will be assessed on a case
by case basis and discussed with the tender and
other relevant parties, as appropriate.

Reinforced slopes offer the possibility of
considerable
environmental and cost savings during
construction, and yet their
design is not covered to an adequate degree
in the existing
version of Eurocode 7. Many countries have
been forced to
preserve existing non-limit-state national
standards, which differ
widely in their approach. This leads to
inconsistency and
confusion in design of mixed structures
incorporating reinforced
slopes (e.g. highway slopes and abutments),
owing to the need to
work with more than one design code and
