Below is a tentative program itinerary. Please note that all activities,
visits, and events are tentative at the time of publication and are
subject to change. Students must be in residence for the entirety of the
program and attend all program activities.
Day 1
Departure for Havana on group flight (included in program fee)
Arrival in Cuba with transfer to accommodations
Late lunch at accommodations

Afternoon (Wed) Departure to visit the Organopónico Vivero Alamar, Cuba’s most
successful urban cooperative agricultural project, formed after the
collapse of the Soviet Bloc in the early 1990s
Afternoon (Thurs) Visit the University of Havana, Cuba’s oldest university and one of the
first established in the Americas, and discuss the Cuban higher education
system.
Afternoon (Fri) Tour of the Museo de la Revolucion

Day 7
am Breakfast at accommodations
8:30 am Depart for Las Terrazas (~1 hr), the sustainable eco-community home to
250 families in Sierra del Rosario and the first UNESCO Biosphere
Reserve in Cuba
9:30 am Group welcome to learn about the principles, approaches and practices
that serve to sustain the community and tour the village:
 Visit the El Romero eco-restaurant, in the center of the
community with its organic gardens
 Visit local artist studios and craft shops
 Visit the community library and reference center
 Speak with local community members about the various projects
sustaining the eco-tourism community.

Optional ziplining or swim in the river
4:00 pm Depart for Vinales
6:00 pm Check into hotel and Group Dinner
8:00 pm Live music at Casa de la Musica in Vinales
Day 8
am Breakfast at hotel
8:00 am Tour of Vinales - UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its mogotes,
spectacular dome-like limestone outcrops that rise as high as 900 feet.
11:00 am Tour la Cueva del Indio, one of 17 known caves in Cuba rediscovered in
1920.

Afternoon (Mon) Visit Casa Fuster– Located in the old fishing Village of Jaimanitas. José
Fuster, inspired by Gaudí’s work in Barcelona, has transformed his home
and neighborhood into a wonderland of ceramic murals, fountains
benches and sculptures.
Afternoon (Tues) Visit to the National Literacy Museum to learn about the Cuban National
Literacy Campaign launched in 1961

Afternoon (Thurs) Visit Cabildo Quisicuaba – sociocultural diversity project

the Sea.

temple of Afro-Cuban culture

3:30 pm Visit Almacenes San José Artisans Market to meet with local artisans and
have the opportunity to purchase original artworks.
