Synopsis
You received a mysterious invitation to an escape room party. The party address is a
leased vacation home, so the host could be anyone in the fog-covered town of
Noxhelm’s Crossing. You have no idea who invited you, but you are familiar with
everyone on the guest list. The invitation says you will work as a team to escape the
room before time runs out. You’ve always wanted to challenge yourself by solving a
timed mystery in a room filled with puzzles, riddles, and codes.
You are intrigued by the host's choice of guests, as these are the most ambitious yet
scandalous people in town. Putting this combination of powerful personalities into an
intense scenario may have deadly consequences.
Nevertheless, you’ve always considered yourself a daring person who loves a challenge.
You have decided to attend this adventure. This is where your story begins.
New hosts: check out our instructional videos at www.mymysteryparty.com/videos for a step-by-step walk
through of how to host and how to plan a mystery party. Note: this is a unique mystery party game because you
also have to set up an escape room. However, the mystery part of the game is essentially the same format as the
rest of our games, so the ‘how to’ videos will apply.

Brief bio
Robin Red is the wealthiest person in Noxhelm’s Crossing. A
tycoon who dabbles in many arenas, Robin is best known for
founding the top music production company, Red Records,
Inc. Robin is an avid botanist as a hobby, using the knowledge
acquired from a biology degree earned many years ago. Robin
nurtures nearly an acre of greenhouses and an assortment of
flower gardens. On a personal level, Robin is ruthless and
brutally honest – but one might expect that from a person filled
to the brim with ambition and power.
Bobby Blue is the eccentric ancient artifacts dealer from
Australia. Bobby travels to distant lands to find exotic items
and sells them at Z. Klaus Auctions, the most famous auction
house in the world that is located in Noxhelm’s Crossing. An
experienced jet-setter and accomplished academic with four
college degrees, Bobby knows a little bit about everything.
Bobby travels to Noxhelm’s Crossing many times a year, and
calls the town home base. Bobby’s a carefree soul and is
known to be a bit of a prankster.
Grayson Green is the motivated news reporter for RBC
Television Station. Grayson is currently up for a promotion to
the coveted news desk, and will do anything to land the job. If
you have news-worthy secrets, you should stay clear of
Grayson.
Grayson plays violin for the local symphony and often
performs on the sidewalk of bustling Main Street to entertain
passersby. Grayson claims this is a form of community
service, but others believe the street performances give
Grayson an avenue to scoop stories.
Yardley Yellow is a gregarious pop star from the town of
Noxhelm’s Crossing. Yardley has risen to the top of the charts
after receiving a Gram Award for the hit song Boo-Boo Face.
People say that everything Yardley touches turns to gold, so
it’s wise to stay in Yardley’s shadows if you are seeking fame
and fortune.
Yardley is a dedicated friend and a blast to be around. Since
moving to Hollywood, Yardley’s been out of touch with old
friends.
Professor Wynne White is the typical absent-minded professor
at Noxhelm’s Crossing College. Inquire about science and
you’ll be blown you away with intellectual facts. Ask about
anything else, you’ll be bored with bland, basic droning.
Wynne hails from Lithuania, so the professor’s dialect is a tad
different from the other residents of Noxhelm’s Crossing. A
strict perfectionist, Wynne goes nuts over the slightest
imperfection in any aspect of his/her life. Wynne White is also
an accomplished flutist.

Ocean Orange is a criminal defense attorney and former
merciless district attorney of Noxhelm’s Crossing. If freedom is
your desire, you want this obnoxious defender on your side of
the courtroom - even if you are guilty of murder! Ocean makes
ambulance chasers look like members of the Peace Corps!
Maybe it goes with the job, but Ocean is a highly-skilled
compulsive liar who habitually makes use of manipulation,
bribery, and blackmail. As long as Ocean wins cases for the
criminal elements in town, s/he’s bullet proof.
Bailey Black is the peculiar librarian at Noxhelm’s Crossing
College. Bailey dresses in Gothic-inspired clothing and speaks
with dark words. A poet since childhood, Bailey can be seen
performing at the local poetry club on any given night. This
doom-and-gloomer will extract the life force out of any
conversation, so beware when you strike up a chat with this
moping bookworm. Bailey is extremely knowledgeable about
the literary field, and is also a cellist at the local symphony.
Dr. Peyton Pink is a caring family doctor at Noxhelm’s
Crossing Urgent Care Clinic (NCUCC). Dr. Pink has a superb
bedside manner, but often spews horrible jokes during checkups. Peyton has been trying to get the local poetry club to add
amateur comic standup nights to their schedule, but thus far,
they’ve declined the requests. Everybody in town knows why –
Peyton’s not funny!
Chef Indy Indigo is the beloved pastry chef and owner of
Indy’s Sweet Treats– the town’s busiest bakery on Main
Street. Chef Indigo has been baking for over a decade and
has recently been in talks for a reality show. However, the
townsfolk love their privacy and the seclusion the town’s fog
confers. The last thing the residents of Noxhelm’s Crossing
want are cameras lurking about the streets. Indy moved to
Noxhelm’s Crossing from Canada many years ago.
Piper Purple is bursting with charisma! That’s how Piper can
swoop into any situation and get the scoop. Be careful of what
you disclose to this ambitious blogger, as Piper is always
trying to get an angle for a blog-worthy story! Piper’s blog has
over a million loyal followers from around the globe. Having
Piper break a scandalous story on you is far worse than the
local news media reporting one. Piper earned a college
degree in economics and loves to play a bagpipe.

HOST INSTRUCTIONS
PREMISE: We’ve been hearing about the escape room (i.e. panic room, puzzle room, etc.) craze for some
time now. Whether you’ve attended one or not – it’s your time to host one in your own home! Game scenario:
each guest was invited to the escape room party by a mystery host. The event is located in a leased vacation
home in the town of Noxhelm’s Crossing, an isolated, fog-covered town. Therefore, any rooms in your home
are suitable to fit the theme of the party! You just need two adjacent areas to host this party. It could be on the
front porch as area #1 and the living room as the second area (escape room) – if you don’t have access to
multiple rooms – it’s flexible!
FORMAT: The guests will arrive to a foyer, formal living area, etc. – any room / area separate from your set
up escape room. This is where you’ll go over the invited guest list (i.e. characters) and guest instructions. Once
all guests have arrived and are ready to play, you will begin with round one and mingle for 15 minutes,
discussing their clues on the round one clue cards. After the players are finished mingling, they will enter the
escape room you’ve set up by reading the letter from the mystery host ‘that was slipped under the front door.’
They have one hour to complete the escape room challenges. The murder is revealed at the end of the hour
(they won’t know this ahead of time). Then, the investigation of the murder commences. After the guests
submit guesses of whodunit, they enter round three where the murderer (and mystery host) will confess.

UPGRADE YOUR DOWNLOAD: For a complete surprise, you can elect the pre-printed ‘party ready’
party pack option from the http://mymysteryparty.com/upgrade-your-download/ site, and we will prepare your
game for you. We send you the clues in labeled envelopes and the rest of prepared game documents –‘ready
to go.’ For a chart that explains the differences between the two versions of this game, head over here: Click
here or to go the Party Ready Pack page on our site to find the link
Please note that the escape room materials do not come with the basic party ready pack unless you add them
to the kit via the drop down boxes. There are endless options of how to set up an escape room. If we prepare
your escape room for you, it will be a basic escape room with only paper materials as the associated materials.
If you want something more elaborate with hidden message mirrors, locked boxes, etc., we suggest you take
the time to design it using our DIY instructions on the Your Mystery Party site.
OPTIONAL PROPS: We also offer mystery props on the My Mystery Party site in the Prop Emporium
including a thunderstorm ambiance 10 minute sound wav to play in the background, crime scene barrier tape,
crime scene balloons, mystery investigation pens, white face (ghost) makeup for the victim, victim t-shirts,
victim’s halo, chalk line body silhouette and even instrumental rap beats as a downloadable mp3 for the
optional but highly suggested bonus game rap contest. We sell envelope packs in different colors for the 4

rounds. There is a ‘Do You Think You Can You Dance’ mp3 track for the Do You Think You Can Dance
challenge as well.
Feel free to set up a mock crime scene using the crime scene tape, body silhouette mat and evidence marker
cards available at our prop store. However, only set up the crime scene after the victim is revealed and do not
use for sleuthing – it’s just for a fun effect and photo opportunity for your guests.

PRE-GAME (OPTIONAL)
ASSIGN THE CHARACTER ROLES: Assign your most outgoing and dependable guests to the 6
required roles. Send a ‘save the date’ to ensure they are all available on that date. It is suggested to invite at
least 7 players so you have a backup in case one of your required players fails to show up. Use the free
invitation on the game’s page at http://mymysteryparty.com/murder-in-the-escape-room under helpful links.
Click to download, save to your hard drive. Reopen with the most current version of Adobe Reader or you may
face problems. Fill in the text fields and save one for each player in the game. Or, you can simply use any
eVite or regulation invitation and direct your guests to the pregame site at http://yourmysteryparty.com/escape
The Your Mystery Party guest pregame site has a character list, synopsis, game video trailer, costume
suggestions and more – this will get your guests ready and excited for your party. We highly suggest sending
your guests there before the game.
IMPLEMENT YOUR OPTIONAL PRE-GAME: This optional pre-game round is to be implemented
approximately one week before the party. Please note that this round is designed to generate pre-game
excitement and is not necessary to solve the mystery. You will need to input your guests’ information on these
cards prior to sending them out. Write ‘disregard this task’ next to any optional player’s contact info blank that
is not being played in your game. The ways to deliver these starters are as follows:

ROUND ONE
GUEST ARRIVAL: Round one – appetizer hour begins as the guests arrive. Play soothing or even eerie
classical music (The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Paul Dukas, Toccata and Fugue by Bach, O Fortuna from Carmina
Burana, etc.) in the room that the guests will gather prior to entering the escape room. Cocktails for the adults
and fun party drinks for the teens along with appetizers can be served.
Make sure the guest instructions and the character descriptions (i.e. suspect list) are available for the guests to
review as they trickle in to your party. Have the round cards handy, as you’ll need them to progress the game
when it’s time. You can also creatively display the clue-containing envelopes on a table for the guests to locate
their own character names. Don’t forget to take both individual pictures of your guests… but also a group
picture once everyone arrives - they’ll all want copies of these!
GAME PLAY: When you are ready to start the game, read the announcement #1 from the mystery host.
You’ll remain in your starting location (the foyer, a formal living area, etc.) and explain that it was slipped under
the door. Then, hand a round one envelope to each guest and set a timer for 15 minutes. This round is
designed for the characters to get acquainted with each other and the plot will start to unfold as the characters

ACCUSATIONS (OPTIONAL): after you collect the mystery investigation sheets, allow the guests to
one-by-one accuse the mystery host (if they haven’t already figured out who it is as a group), and the murderer
and how they did it. Instruct them to tell the group their guess of the murderer‘s motive. If you are having an
awards ceremony using the awards certificates available on the My Mystery Party site in the mystery props
section, you can use this round as the final decision maker on the best actor/actress award.

EXAMPLE TIME LINE
The time line may be shortened by reducing the amount of time in the escape room and not serving
dinner.
6:30 PM: Guests arrive to area #1 (foyer, front porch, adjacent room, etc.), get refreshments,
review the suspect list, and guest instructions. This is a great time to snap a photo of each guest
as they arrive.
6:40 PM: Go over the guest instructions with the group.
6:50 PM: Read the announcement #1, pass out the round one clue cards, and start the timer for
the fifteen minute mingling session – they discuss their clues on the round one cards with each
other to build the story line.
7:05 PM: Players enter the escape room. Set the timer for one hour (this can be lengthened /
shortened if needed). They will begin to search and collect evidence. They will start to analyze
and solve puzzles, etc. Hopefully, they will solve at least 3-4 of the scenarios and get 3-4 clues of
the mystery host. **Note, if the players are struggling, you can give up to 3 hints &/or extend
this time. **
8:05 PM: If you are going to serve dinner, this is when to do it. If not, you’ll go straight to the
next step. Dinner is built into this time line, however.
8:40 PM: The murder occurs. Read the announcement #2 and pass out the round two clue cards
and the investigation sheets. The guests will now start to sleuth the murder. They use the
information on their clue cards to interrogate each other and collect the evidence for the
murder.
8:50 PM: Present the guests with the forensic report.
9:00 PM: Ask the guests to submit their guess of whodunit and the identity of the mystery host.
9:10 PM: Have each guest accuse the character they believe is the mystery host and murderer –
it may or may not be the same person.
9:20 PM: The guests will read their solutions to the group, and the murderer will be last to
confess (as directed by the order to read the solutions on the card). The mystery host will also
reveal him/herself during this round.
9:40 PM: Host an optional award ceremony and dessert.
We hope you have a fabulous time at your party. If you have a fun time, please share your
success story and pics on our Facebook Page (My Mystery Party) and we will be glad to
show you our appreciation with a loyalty coupon code for your next party!

CLUES TO REVEAL TO OTHERS:
• CHARACTER W has threatened to take your blog
down many times. You received a letter yesterday
that said you had 48 hours to remove the stories
about CHARACTER W or the entire site will be
removed and a lawsuit will be filed against you.
• You’ve done a couple of stories about some people
in this room on your blog. They probably don’t like
you very much, but you don’t care. You report the
news as you investigate it - it is all factual.
• You did a story about how CHARACTER H and
CHARACTER S sued CHARACTER G for selling a
fake artifact from 1,600 B.C. However, CHARACTER
G claims they plotted a plan to switch out the artifact
with a fake, get the 2 million dollars back that s/he
paid CHARACTER G, and then sell the real artifact
at a private overseas auction. This is scandalous!
• Ask CHARACTER Q if CHARACTER U has a ghost
singer. You heard a rumor and need to know if it’s
true.
CLUES YOU MAY CONCEAL:
• You believe in freedom of the press. As long as your
stories are 100% factual– and you can prove you’ve
done your research checked facts – there is nothing
CHARACTER W can do to you. However, s/he may
have a way to remove your site temporarily. If this
happens, you may lose a ton of your followers!
CHARACTER D-ROUND TWO

THE FOLLOWING IS THE EVIDENCE IN THE MURDER
THAT YOU KNOW:
The victim began to act strangely soon after the
group entered the escape room. You knew
something was wrong. You didn’t care for the
victim, however, so you didn’t offer assistance.
That doesn’t make you a murderer.
As people arrived to this event, they gathered in
the foyer and enjoyed refreshments. Once
everybody was accounted for, the group entered
the escape room.
The murderer obviously had to have scientific &/or
medical knowledge to pull off a crime like this. A
background in science &/or medicine should be
included as something to consider as part of the
investigation.
The victim already had finished a drink and placed
the glass down on a table by the time you arrived
to the event. If your fingerprints are on the victim’s
glass, you’ll have no explanation.
You remember seeing CHARACTER N having an
argument with the victim before the group entered
the escape room.
If a suspect arrived to the event after the victim
finished drinking their beverage, that person is
unlikely to be the killer.
READ AFTER CHARACTER X
PRESENT THE FOLLOWING SOLUTION TO THE GROUP
WHEN IT IS YOUR TURN:
CHARACTER Z was preventing me from
