INTRODUCTION OF OUR YELLOW
CLASS TEACHER
This month I would like to introduce you our teacher
Petra, who is teaching our older yellow class…
Jana
PETRA ANTOŇOVÁ
My name is Petra Antoňová and this is my 16th year at Bumble Bee. In addition to
teaching the youngest ones in the Yellow class II this year, I am teaching older
kids in the Czech club in the afternoons.
I earned my teaching education at pedagogical high school and pedagogical
college of Charles University of Prague. I studied English language at Camden
College of English in London.
I have been working at Bumble Bee since 1999. In addition to teaching the
youngest ones in the Yellow and Red class, I also teach older kids in the afternoon
clubs. I love my work with little bumble bees for its creativity and diversity. Our days
are different, unrepeatable and mutually enriching. Children deliver their joy,
imagination and spontaneity, and I bring my ideas, experience and love for music
and movement. I want songs, rhymes and physical activities accompany every our
step. I wish for my children to absorb English as naturally as possible, such as in
games.
What do I give to the children from my personality, from my principles?
It is important to me that children feel comfortable here at school. I
accompany their adaptation period and first independent steps in the big
world without moms and dads. I teach them how to find their first friends
and share toys with them. I'm trying to create a friendly environment and
show the kids that the respect of fair play rules help us to get along with
the other people, and that the words "sorry" and "thank you" are really
magic...

News from Yellow class (Mgr. Petra Antoňová)
Our main topic for last month was „My Body and Soul in Harmony“. We spoke about ourselves,
our bodies, hygiene procedures, food, about our feelings and people who we love. We learned
songs „I Love you“ and “Skinny Marinky Dinky Dink” and made paper hugs for our mums and
dads for St. Valentine’s day.
We used paper plate mats, plates and cutlery to learn how to set the table. Of course we need a
lot of practising to remember it but we know the basic rules now. We talked about different kinds
of food, what we like to eat and what we should eat only sometimes. We also made paper pizza
which looked very yummy and learned the names of some food.
We read a few books about healthy habits „Bedtime!“, „Bathtime!“, “Dinnertime!“, and about
injuries and sickness "Ouch, I Need a Plaster".
We also sang a song „Head and Shoulders“ to do the little exercise and practise parts of our bodies
and songs about actions we do before we go to school called “Get Out of Bed” and „This is the
Way“. When talking about our feelings we sang the song "If You are Happy". To stretch our bodies
we went for walks and built a monkey track (obstacle course) to test our physical skills.
In March we are going to talk about nature waking up from its winter sleep, animals and their life
cycle – all in songs, rhymes, books and pictures as always.
Have a nice spring time,
Petra

News from Yellow class (Mgr. Oli Jokschová)
February was all about our body and staying fit and healthy. We talked about the importance of
exercise. Every day we included some kind of movement into our morning program. We tried to
move around the classroom according to drumming, practised our balance, used beanbags and
revised our favourite songs with actions. On top of that we´ve learned new songs to memorize the
body parts, name our fingers or differentiate left or right hand side. The children have made big
progress in understanding body movement instructions, such as "Reach up high, bend your knees..."
They react very well to it.
On the occasion of our monthly topic we revised basic hygienic rules and brushed up on dental care
with the dentist specialist, who came to visit in the last week of February. Back in the classroom we
studied human senses, did some food tasting and tried to differentiate flavours. We talked about
food that is good for us, made a homemade pizza and learned a chant about it.
Finally I shouldn´ t forget to mention the Valentine´s day celebration, when we stressed the
importance of being a good friend, being kind and polite to each other and about the many ways to
show our love and care. Children made Valentine´s owls and had fun playing with the balloons and
dancing to music.
I am looking forward to the next month and the Spring topic.

News from Blue class – Will Lancaster
This month in the Blue Class we have continued to get more comfortable with all of the new and
exciting changes in our classroom. This month we have really been focusing on how to maintain a
healthy lifestyle. We discussed the importance of eating right. We discussed what foods are healthy for
us such as different fruits, vegetables, and meats. We also talked about the importance of stretching
and exercise. We practiced a lot of new stretches during out circle time. The students loved trying to
come up with new ways to exercise and stay healthy.
We learned all about the inside and outsides of the body. We learned how our five senses help us to
discover all the new things around us. We also talked about the functions of some of our important
organs inside our body. Some of the organs we examined were the lungs, the brain, the heart and the
stomach. Some of our favorite projects were making the brain hats and making our own lungs out of
paper bags and straws. This allowed us to see exactly how our lungs work every time we breathe.
We also celebrated Valentine’s Day this month by making cards for our loved ones as well as
bumblebees made out of hearts. Also, we combined with the blue and green class to have a Valentine’s
Day party; where we played a lot of fun Valentine’s Day games. We also visited the Bio Oka Cinema. We
learned a lot about how a cinema works as well got to go into the projector room to see how they show
the movie of such big screens. We even got to watch two short films. Finally, we had a Dental Health
Professional talk to us about how to properly take care of our teeth. We learned the importance of
talking proper care of our teeth. We really enjoyed the month of February and learning so much about
our body. We are looking forward to the month of March and welcoming the first signs of spring.

News from Blue class – Ciaran O´Hare
This month our theme was 'My Body and Soul in harmony'. This meant learning
all about the human body and how it works. We learnt about how the heart and
lungs work together to circulate life-giving oxygen to every part of our bodies.
We learnt about the different parts of our digestive system and how our bodies
turn food into energy. We learnt about our skeletons and how they protect our
organs.
We also learnt about the five different senses and what each part of the body
does – our eyes that see, our tongues that taste, our ears that hear, our noses
that smell and our hands that touch. We went on a nature walk and drew all of
the things we experienced with our senses. We also focused on taste and learnt
about sweet, sour, bitter, salty and spicy flavours in a taste test.
Part of this theme is to learn about different emotions. We talked about the
things that make us feel scared or sad or angry or happy. We discussed how we
can tell how our friends are feeling by the change in their expression or the way
they hold their body, and what to do when one of our friends feels sad.
Of course, it's Valentine's day in February so we talked about the people we love
and what nice things we can do to show them we care. We made some lovely
crafts using heart shapes to make different animals, as well as Valentine's cards.
We also attended Bumbe Bee's traditional Valentine's party. We had a dance
competition and played some games.
As part of our Body theme, we had a visit from a dentist who talked to us about
the importance of keeping our teeth healthy and the best way to brush our teeth.
We also had a trip to the Bio Oko cinema to see 'behind the scenes' in the
projection room and ticket booth. We watched a beautiful film about a fairy who
wants to learn to sing.

News from Green class – David Metaxas
February was a busy month in Green Class. We began with the
long awaited robot project. All the materials that we collected
were put on the table and the children were able to choose and
construct their own robot. I glued together the parts as directed
and the children painted and added details. As with all projects in
Green Class we researched the subject first.
We also had our cinema trip this month. It was interesting, fun and
very well organised. The film we watched was excellent too.
Throughout the month we have been working through the Junior
Achievement program. The children have learnt about community,
work and education, how to make money and save money to get
the things that we want and need.
We had our Valentines celebration also, as you can see from the
pictures the children had a great time with their first experience of
ballroom dancing! It was amazing how the children had no
hesitation in choosing a partner.
With our topic of the month being the body we learned about
skin, bones, and organs. We also researched healthy eating and
the reasons for it. We looked into germs and the bodies immune
system. The children now have a strong basic knowledge about
functions of the human body.
As usual we have been continuing with School preparation. We
have learned new rhymes, continued with our geography
education, english, maths, and cognitive skills. The class is doing
very, very well and I'm most happy with their progress.
