Zulu has good straw attributes offering growers a taller strawed variety that responds well to PGR applications.
The variety offers growers a reliable disease resistance package with no serious disease threats, offering growers
security on farm. The variety has excellent yellow rust resistance, a disease that has caused many concerns on farm in
the last couple of years!
Zulu offers very good physical grain characteristics with a soft endosperm, making the variety potentially suitable for
the key marketable outlets; biscuit, distilling and export. The variety would also be suitable for the biofuel and the
large animal feed markets.
The variety has the attributes that growers required in the biscuit varieties of the past, offering growers a sound
variety to be grown on farm with good variety agronomic attributes and a range of marketable outlets for the grain.
Zulu is resistant to WOBM.
Zulu carries resistance for SBCMV (Soil-borne cereal mosaic virus). Although the distribution of this disease is low in
the UK, incidence would appear to be increasing and variety resistance is essential for growers in
the regions affected to guarantee good crop returns.
February 2014. Data from the HGCA Recommended Lists database, full data at www.hgca.com.
On the 1-9 scales, high figures indicate that a variety shows the character to a high degree.
