On July 8, 2011, the Senior Consultant of Hanban, (the former president of Goethe
Institute of China region), Mr. Michael Ackerman and Mr. Clemens Treter, the Head
of Major Projects of Goethe Institute Headquarters, (the former vice president of
Goethe Institute of Beijing points), paid a visit to Confucius Classroom Munich. This
was their first visit to the Confucius Institutes in Germany after they transferred back
to the Headquarters of Goethe Institute in Munich from Beijing.
The afternoon of July 8, Ms.Fangfang Gao and Ms. Jie Fang, the German and
Chinese Directors of Confucius Classroom Munich, and the supervisor of Orient
Foundation in Munich Mr. Jakob Pöllath, accompanied Mr. Ackermann and Mr. Treter
to visit the East Foundation and Confucius Classroom Munich, and they described
the purpose and mission of the Foundation and the sessions of Confucius classroom
Munich. Mr. Ackermann and Mr. Treter expressed their sincere admiration to the
behavior of the donors of East Foundation Professor Reinhard Pöllath who has long
been unknown to support the promotion of Chinese language and Chinese culture.
Professor Pöllath has not only provided the amount of money, which exceeds the
agreement with Hanban, for the establishment of Confucius Classroom Munich, but
also raised 75,000 euro of corporate sponsorship through his influence in the
business for the establishment of the Confucius Institute Hamburg. In addition,
Professor Pöllath also has sponsored local schools teaching Chinese language. He
has spared no effort to contribute to his strength to promote Chinese culture activities.
During the talk, they exchanged the views on the operation and development of the
Institutes, focusing on the feasibility of multi-party cooperation between Confucius
Institute and Goethe Institute. As language training and cultural promotion agencies,
Confucius Institute and Goethe Institute have many commonalities. Mr. Clemens
Treter looks forward to strengthening cooperation with Confucius Classroom Munich,
and promoting cultural exchanges between Germany and China. Mr. Michael
Ackerman is very concerned about the development Confucius Institutes in Germany.
He showed a high degree of recognition and appreciation for the achievements of
Confucius Classroom Munich and its practical work style. He also gave more
expectations to the future development of Confucius Classroom Munich.
Confucius Classroom Munich will not live up, and will continue to contribute its efforts
to popularize Chinese teaching and to promote Chinese culture.
