Vineland Public Library 2014 Summer Programs for Teens Ages 13-18 Pokémon Club – Ages 7-16 COMMUNITY EVENT ROOM Fridays July 11, 18 & 25 / August 1, 8 & 15 1 – 2:30 p.m. All programs are free! If you are 13 to 18-years-old and you’re looking for something fun to do this summer, look no further than the Vineland Public Library! The summer reading theme this year is “Spark a Reaction.” Get a jump start on your summer reading assignment, make a movie, enjoy good food and read and discuss a novel about alien invasion. Keep reading for a complete list of programs and check the other side of this flyer for dates and times. To register for these programs, either stop by the library or call (856) 794-4244, ext. 4246. Join Senior Library Assistant Juni Ruiz for a discussion of all things Pokémon. Participants are invited to bring their Nintendo DS handhelds, Pokémon games, trading cards, and anything else related to Pokémon. Registration is required. Children ages 8 and younger must be accompanied by an adult at all times in the library. Young Writers Club – Ages 9-13 Children’s Department Mondays July 7, 14, 21 & 28 / August 4 & 11 2 – 3 p.m. Have fun writing stories and poems. Selected stories will appear in the library’s Kids Talk magazine. This program is most beneficial to children and teens who enjoy creative writing and who can attend every meeting. Registration is required. Additional Programs for Teens In addition to the teen programs listed on the back of this flyer, the two programs listed on the front are for both children and teens. Please pay attention to the age limits. Teen Room Hours As staffing permits, the Teen Room will be open from 3 to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays this summer. Please note that the Teen Room will be CLOSED on Wednesdays during teen programs. If you do not have a library card and want to use the computers, please bring your school ID or some paperwork from school and ask Teen Room or Children’s Department staff how to get a free computer card. JULY AUGUST READ-A-THON REGISTRATION REQUIRED TEEN ROOM W EDNESDAY JULY 9 4 – 6 P.M. Get a head start on your school summer reading assignment, or read for pleasure. If you read for at least an hour and a half, you will be able to join us for a pizza party at 5:30 p.m. and receive a free book. IRON MECHS MAKE-A-MOVIE PROGRAM REGISTRATION REQUIRED COMMUNITY EVENT ROOM W EDNESDAY JULY 16 4 – 7 P.M. Make a movie about mad scientists and destructive robots. By signing up for this program, you are giving the library permission to put you on our Facebook page and YouTube channel. MOVIE AND DISCUSSION REGISTRATION REQUIRED COMMUNITY EVENT ROOM W EDNESDAY JULY 23 4 – 6 P.M. Watch a movie and discuss it. A scientist travels on a space shuttle mission headed by a talkative, charismatic astronaut. As the two are on a spacewalk, debris hits the area where they are working, and soon the pair finds themselves detached from their ship and stranded in space. This PG-13 film is being shown in compliance with a license from Movie Licensing USA. STARLAB PROGRAM – AGES 9-18 COMMUNITY EVENT ROOM W EDNESDAY, JULY 30 4-5 P.M., Children and teens ages 9-18 are invited to a portable planetarium from Pearl Observatory. Learn how to locate planets, stars, constellations and more. Registration is required as space is limited. BOOK DISCUSSION — THE 5TH WAVE REGISTRATION REQUIRED TEEN ROOM W EDNESDAY AUGUST 6 4 – 5 P.M. Read and discuss The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey. The alien invasion is underway. It is so forceful that it has reduced the earth’s population to 7/8 of its original size. The aliens are very clever in their attempts to destroy humanity, but what they don't seem to realize is that the remaining humans are not the weakest; they are the toughest, most resilient people on earth and they will continue to fight this invasion at any cost. Please register and pick up a free copy of the book in the Children’s Department before the discussion. Books are funded by the Friends of the Vineland Public Library. POTLUCK END OF SUMMER PARTY REGISTRATION REQUIRED COMMUNITY EVENT ROOM W EDNESDAY AUGUST 13 4 – 5:30 P.M.
