Some Skills You Learn at NIPA
The work of an Automotive Technician also
involves reassembling and testing repaired items
against manufacturers' standards, as well as
performing preventative maintenance such as
wheel alignments, oil changes and tune-ups.
The Profession
Automotive Technicians examine, test and repair
the parts and systems on cars and light trucks.
They often use computerized diagnostic
equipment to test, adjust and repair key vehicle
components such as engines, steering systems,
braking systems, drive trains, vehicle suspensions
and electrical systems
Career and Further Education Opportunities
for the Automotive Technician
After successfully completing the Automotive
Technician program, you can work for any
mechanic business on the island and in the
region. You can also choose to pursue a level 2
program.

AUTOMOTIVE
TECHNICIAN
Level 2
Interested?
You will need to show a keen interest in vehicle
technology and maintenance, have an inquisitive
mind, and enjoy gaining the knowledge of how
components work, and their importance.
What Does Level 2 Mean?
A level 2 program trains you to become a basic
professional.
As a basic professional, you will receive
instructions from your supervisor, and during the
course of your employment at this level, you will
be required to regularly report to your supervisor.
You will also work in a team with colleagues.
Though you are expected to perform your own
tasks, you should also know when to request help
or refer a client to a colleague.
Program Duration: 2 years
Admission Requirements
Practical Training
All NIPA programs consist of classes in school
and practical training in the workplace. A few
days a week you will work at a company as a
student employee. The practical training allows
you to practice your skills and to learn all about
the profession from professionals in real
situations. This also means you will already
have some work experience when you finish the
program.
PSVE PBL or SBO level 1 diploma. If you have
no diploma, you will undergo an assessment.
