Well…there was a young girl named Mary who was engaged to a man named Joseph. He was the great-great-great-great-great grandson of King David. One morning this girl was in her house when a shining angel named Gabriel appeared right in front of her. She was afraid, but Gabriel said, ”Don’t be afraid I’m here to tell you some good news from God! Mary you are going to have a little baby, a baby boy and you will name him Jesus! He’s the one Mary! Your baby is going to save the world!” Mary was very excited and ran to tell Joseph. It took Joseph some time to understand it all, but an angel told Joseph not to be afraid, and to still take Mary as his wife and just as the angel had told them; Mary became pregnant. Right about that same time Mary & Joseph had to go to a town called Bethlehem where Joseph was from so that they could be registered. When they got to the city they tried to find a place to stay so that Mary could have her baby. But there was no room anywhere. So Mary and Joseph found a stable, surrounded by animals, filled with hay and even poo! … and that’s where Mary had her baby, the baby Jesus! There He was, God’s wonderful gift to the world! The Bible tells us that one of his names was Emmanuel which means “God is with us”! On the same night that Jesus was born a brand new star appeared in the sky and it was very bright! This new star was shining in the sky right over the stable where Jesus was born. 13 Nearby in a field some shepherds were watching their sheep and all of the sudden a whole bunch of angels appeared in the sky and began to sing and shout that Jesus, God’s Son, had been born. God must have thought that shepherds were pretty important because He chose them to be the first to hear the news! After they heard the angels singing “Glory to God in the Highest!” and “Peace on Earth”, the shepherds went as fast as they could to go and find the place where Jesus was born so that they could worship him. And that’s what they did; they came to the stable and found Mary and Joseph and Jesus and they fell down on their knees and worshipped him! Far away in the East three really clever men saw the star in the sky. They were very excited because they had been waiting for a sign like this, to show them that the new baby King had been born. They started travelling right away to come and find the baby so that they could worship Him too. They rode their camels for many days and finally came to the place where Jesus was. They brought him beautiful gifts of gold and special spices and perfumes. They also fell on their knees and worshipped Jesus because he was the son of God who had come to save the world. So that’s how God’s plan was carried out. And that is the story of How Jesus was born into this world so that He could save us! Jesus, the Prince of Heaven, would bring all people closer to God, even if they did something really wrong, so that now nothing can get between us and God’s love! Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace and good will toward all men! 14 Event Partners wyndhamcity.harcourts.com.au | 9741 9000 megalines.com.au | 1300 965 652 15 O Holy Night O holy night, the stars are brightly shining It is the night of our dear Saviour’s birth Long lay the world in sin and error pining ‘Til He appeared and the soul felt its worth A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn’ Fall on your knees, O hear the angels’ voices O night divine, O night when Christ was born O night divine, O night, O night divine Truly He taught us to love one another His law is love and His gospel is peace Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother And in His name all oppression shall cease Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we, Let all within us praise His holy name Christ is the Lord, oh praise his name forever His pow’r and glory, ever more proclaim His pow’r and glory, ever more proclaim Fall on your knees, O hear the angels’ voices O night divine, O night when Christ was born O night divine, O night, O night divine 16 O Come all ye Faithful O come, all ye faithful, Joyful and triumphant, O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem; Come and behold Him Born the King of angels; O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him, Christ, the Lord.
