What we teach...
Our programs are designed to teach practical skills that are directly related to each student’s age and demographic.
We prepare students for the real world by educating them about financial literacy (how to save, plan, and prepare),
work-readiness (how to find and land the job the student wants), and entrepreneurship (how to think outside-the-box
about business).

How Can You Get Involved?
There are two important elements that allow Junior Achievement to impact the lives of
thousands of young people in our region each year — volunteers who enter the classroom and
financial support to provide program materials and training for those volunteers.
Here are some ways you can help us do both:
Volunteer
Volunteers from the professional world working with students and teachers in the classroom make Junior
Achievement programs unique. Dedicated caring adults share their business experience with students
giving them first-hand examples of today’s professional world. This dynamic interaction between the
volunteer, teacher, and students promotes active learning and brings theory to life.
Volunteers do not have to know how to teach to participate in JA. JA provides training, easy to use
materials, a concise Consultant Guide and support to help every volunteer have a successful experience.
Training lasts 30 to 60 minutes and provides the volunteer with everything they will need to know about
program kit materials, student characteristics, and classroom management techniques. Training and
program descriptions are also available on-line at www.jawesternpa.org.
Bowl-A-Thon
The Bowl-A-Thon is a team-building, company-wide fundraiser that enables employees to have fun while
raising money for Junior Achievement.
Each company chooses a coordinator who works with JA to arrange a date to bowl. Coordinators recruit
team captains who form teams of four to six people that raise money by getting flat pledges from friends,
family, co-workers and neighbors. On the day of the event, bowlers arrive at their
designated bowling center, register to bowl and then bowl 3 games while enjoying food, beverages and
prizes while they are team-building and networking with co-workers.
And the best part: The more money you raise, the better the prizes.
Support
Receiving little government funding, Junior Achievement relies on the generosity of local companies and
individuals to help us educate our youth. You can send you tax deductible contribution to Junior Achievement or donate online at www.jawesternpa.org.
JA also participates as a Contributor Choice Agency with United Way of Allegheny County – Code 630.
