JOB DESCRIPTION:
Play Worker/Play Leader
1. To develop and maintain a structured, organised and fundamentally active
playground environment
2. To provide a range of appropriate creative, stimulating and fun activities which
are physically active
3. To provide opportunities for children to participate in playground challenges
4. To organise and maintain effective zoning of the playground in order to cater for a
wide variety of differing needs, creating a playground environment inclusive of
all children
5. To use observation and reflective practice to assess the play and lunchtime needs
of the children
6. To use various intervention and response methods on order to create a child
friendly, non authoritarian and co-operative environment
7. To respond to feedback and communicate with the children in order to respond to
the play and lunchtime needs of the children
8. To positively promote the use of the playground at break and lunchtimes
9. To positively promote the health benefits of being physically active and how use
of the playground can achieve this
10. To select, train and monitor a team of mini-leaders to assist with the running of
the playground activities/projects
11. To keep up to date with the latest projects, developments and strategies at local
and county level
12. To supervise, motivate and enthuse midday supervisors to take an active role
maintaining an active playground
13. To work in line with all school policies including the Health and Safety Policy
14. To report to the Headteacher any incidents or accidents which may have taken
place during the lunchtime period
15. To attend to any medical situations whilst awaiting the arrival of a trained first aid
official
16. To have regular meetings with appropriate others in relation to the development
of the playground and to ensure the positive dissemination of relevant information
to other staff
17. To ensure the safe storage, use and transportation of equipment used within the
active playground ensuring it is fit for use by children and staff
18. To take in any training that is required for the post
19. Whilst on duty, assume responsibility for the safety and welfare of children under
their supervision
20. To undertake any additional duties as may be appropriate to achieve the
objectives of the post as directed by the line manager.
