Team Building Message #13 Team Building Principles for Church, Home, Work and School (Be Kind … Be Compassionate … Be Patient … Be Respectful … Be Diligent … Be Joyful … Be Honest) BE HONEST Romans 12:17b (KJV) - Provide things honest in the sight of all men. BIBLICAL DEFINITION: HONEST—Good, right, virtuous, fair, well, better. Note: The Greek word translated as “honest” has a deeper and broader meaning than our English “honest”. In the Greek it not only means to be truthful, it means to live a life that is above reproach … a life that goes the second and third mile in order to do what is right in the sight of everyone. WEBSTER’S DEFINITION: HONEST—To not cheat or lie, to be trustworthy, showing fairness and sincerity. BIBLICAL USES OF THE WORD OFTEN TRANSLATED AS HONEST: I PETER 2:12—Live such honest (good) lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us. HEBREWS 13:18— Pray for us. We are sure that we have a clear conscience and desire to live honestly (honorably) in every way. II CORINTHIANS 8:21—For we are taking pains to do what is honest (right), not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of men. LUKE 8:1-8, 11, 15—After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were with him, and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene) from whom seven demons had come out; Joanna the wife of Cuza, the manager of Herod’s household; Susanna; and many others. These women were helping to support them out of their own means. While a large crowd was gathering and people were coming to Jesus from town after town, he told this parable: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds of the air ate it up. Some fell on rock, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it an chocked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.” This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God. The seed on good soil stands for those with an honest (noble) and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.
