Anita has recently completed filming the third series of Four Rooms, the antiques
show with a twist which returns to Channel Four for a 30 episode run in the
Spring. Anita is an original and key member of BBC1’s The One Show presenting
team; in which she tackles the latest issues affecting the nation and has coanchored the main show on a number of occasions. Turning to her hand to
baking Anita was crowned Comic Relief’s Great British Bake Off’s inaugural
winner.
An engaging and opinionated presenter with a thirst for knowledge and travel Anita has carved quite a niche for
herself in the factual entertainment arena. For BBC2 she has tackled How Safe Are Britain’s Roads; making a
seemingly dry subject entertaining and informative. While further afield, Anita has traversed China for China On
Four Wheels, the follow up to India On Four Wheels. Both involved epic car journey’s across these huge countries
investigating the impact of the car industry on all sectors of society. In 2009 Anita presented Make Me White, the
BBC1 documentary investigating skin lightening within the Asian community. A forthcoming This World for BBC2
sees Anita tackling the sensitive subject of India’s Supersize Kids.
Anita excels in a live environment and last year co-presented the groundbreaking Foxes Live for Channel Four. In
2011 Anita landed the sought after role of presenting the Royal Wedding coverage for BBC1; broadcasting live to
millions worldwide. She was given a prime spot outside the Goring Hotel where Kate and the rest of the Middleton
clan were staying and from where she left to go to Westminster Abbey. Anita got first glimpse of that dress! For
the revamped Watchdog series Anita championed consumer’s rights and again for Rogue Restaurants both for
BBC1.
Anita grew up in Bradford, and came to broadcasting early, with her own show on Sunrise Radio at the age of 14.
She studied Broadcasting at Leeds University, and went on to work as a TV researcher for the BBC and various
independent companies. Anita has presented a plethora of programmes since including Street Beat for UK Play,
The Edit for Channel Five, combining news and entertainment for young people, Network East, the BBC2
flagship Asian magazine show, BBC3’s satirical current affairs programme The State We’re In, Cricket AM on
Sky Sports, The Cricket Show for Channel 4 as well as presenting My Generation Next, shown on BBC News 24.
In 2005, Anita joined BBC’s Asian Network as presenter of the weekend breakfast shows Hot Breakfast as
well as presenting the first three series of the BBC2 award-winning Asian cultural magazine show Desi DNA.
Anita has also been a regular face of major pop extravaganzas for Five, including Spring Break Live, Party in the
Park and Pop City Live as well as presented BBC3’s first Poetry Slam.
She appeared on BBC Radio Five Live in 2007 and presented World Have Your Say on the BBC World Service
and Weekend Breakfast on Radio Five Live. In August 2007 she presented Calcutta Uncovered as part of the
BBC India and Pakistan ’07 season and she is frequently asked to cover various shows on BBC Radio 6 Music.
Last year Anita deputised for Jeremy Vine on Radio 2.
