the Convention's history, its work, present needs and future outlook. You
know of its history, are carrying on its works, hut the present needs, consecrated, and wherever possible, trained pastors and teachers and a successful
future are with us. What shall we do?

a text 2 Tim. 1:12: I'm not ashamed; I know in whom I have believed. Many
reasons were given why a Christian isn't ashamed of Jesus.
The primary
one because he knows Him. The sermon was interesting, full of intuition and

year 1924. This money seems to have gotten lost and was found too late
for record of 1924.
The President called Rev. Jenkins to the chair. He proceeded to make his
annual address. Concluding same Rev. I. M. Powers motioned that said address be accepted and recommendations adopted which was done.
Rev. J. H. Moore, who was formerly introduced, came upon the scene and
delivered a masterly and convincing plea for Missions.
He spoke from a
subject, "Progressive Christianity." No one who may chance to listen to him
cannot but take on new life and be inspired to do greater work, praying,
paying and talking up Missions. $15.00 was collected. This amount was
supplemented and increased to $25.00. Same was given the speaker as traveling expenses and on a fund purporting to be a "Ministers Conference," at

A Topic: "Evangelism in the Sunday School," was discussed by Prof Pope.
He began by saying, "Evangelism is the preaching or promulgating the
gospel." The first thing that the Sunday School should aim at should be to
get the pupils to become Christians. You can manage them more easily
when they become Christians. Evangelism should obtain in the Sunday
School for the following reasons:
As a matter of obedience to Jesus. It
will make the young more useful to the church, community and better citizens.
Will bring joy and happiness into their lives.
He continued, the
Sunday S'chool is not functioning as it should, or living up to its high mission,, unless some souls are saved through its influence each year.

Rev. Fowers spoke on the work of Bro. T. E. Henry in the Convention.
"Am I bcrn to die," etc was sung. Rev. McRae led in prayer. Bro. Henry
was a life long member and earnest worker in the Convention. He will be

missed.
Rev. S. Carr read the report on District Superintendents.
T. A. I owers asked to be relieved. Bro. Hallie Dixon will represent the Convention in the 4th District.
Same Missionaries as last year were reappointed.
Miss Lucile Murray, of Adoram S\mday School was elected as delegate to
the State Sunday School Convention which meets at Hamlet, N. C.
The report on Temperance was read by Rev. L. B. Boykins. The President
and Rev. Powers made some strong points for the cause of Temperance. The
evil of strong drink will grow so long as the masses indulge in it; the leaders wink at it; the lawyers plead so strong for its makers and dealers, and
the public say, "let well enough alone," etc.
The next session of the Convention was recommended to be held at the
First Baptist, Garland, N. C. Same after some objection was accepted. Let
us all D. V. go to Garland, July 22-25, 1926. Rev. A. J. Boney read the
"Resolutions" as prepared by the committee
Same was adopted.
A collection was lifted by Rev. McRae. The following named persons paid
one dollar: Dr. Moore, Rev. Durant, I.

SATURDAY AFTERNOON.
After enjoying a wholesome repast the Board was called in session. The
Finance Committee handed in its report and money. The general expenses
of the Convention and other appropriations were made as the needs and calls
of Missions, education, etc., demanded.
(See report and disbursements.)
Rev. J. N. McKnights was asked to preach. He did so to the real satisfaction of both saint and sinner. Everybody seemed to enjoy the sermon. $11.25
was raised and put in the Treasury. This closed a very busy day of strenuous work and earnest proclivities. Many of the Ministers and delegates
took leave for their various fields of labor; not knowing whether they would
meet another session of the Convention. Marks of expectancy were shown
on each face as they bid adieu the co-workers.
SATURDAY NIGHT.
Rev. Joseph Reaves being on program to preach remained over. Rev, D. C.
Fennell opened divine services by singing ,r
I a Soldier of the Cross,"
etc.
Rev. D. L. Reed read Psalm 94 and offered prayer. "How sweet the name
of Jesus sounds," etc., was sung. Rev. Reaves used as a text Ps. 92:12: The
righteous shall flourish like the palm tree; he shall grow like a cedar in
Lebanon. He made some very good illustrations of the subject or text.
Rev.. D. C. Fennell offered a fervent prayer. Bro. Wash Beatty and Walter
Hayes called for a collection which amounted to $4.10. Doxology was sung.
Benediction by Rev. Reaves.

SUNDAY MORNING.
S'unday School was opened with music. Prayer by Rev. Wash Carr. The
International Lesson for July 26, 1925, was used as a lesson. Many comments,
all classes paid on the table.
$2.20 with 70 cents for Missions was raised.
Left this amount of $2.90 with Hawes Chapel S'unday School.
Take your collections by classes and mission money as a whole. Do this
each Sunday and you will be surprised to know how much money you will be
able to report for all causes at next Convention.
At 11:30 divine services were opened. The Church choir with Prof. Sweat
and Miss Isabella Boney respectively at the organ rendered very appropriate
music. Rev. A. J. Boney read scripture lessen from St. Matt. 8. Rev. Wash
Carr led in prayer. "Am I a Soldier of the Cross," etc., was sung. Rev.
Boney presented the Rev. D. L. Reed to preach.
He made some remarks commensurate with the occasion. St. Matt. 8:27
was announced for a text. Theme: "Take the Lord with you on the voyage
of life." Without Jesus on board many souls have been, are being, and will
be shipwrecked and perhaps lost. Just wake up Jesus if you have him on
the ship. What a calm will come when He speaks. Take the name of Jesus
with you. A strong and interesting sermon..
Prof. F. L. Ganey and Brother Sampson lifted a collection amounting to
$17.25.
Closed until 2:30 P. M.
Benediction by Rev. Reed.
At time appointed the house was packed to hear a sermon by Rev. A. J.
Boney, the pastor. "Must Jesus bear the cross alone," etc., was sung. Rev.
Reed read 1st Peter 3:1-11. Rev. Wash invoked the throne of Grace. The
choir sang, "Let your lower Lights be burning," etc.
The speaker arose
and used for a text Isaiah 40:8. Subject: "The durability of God's work."
Every one present was urged to get in God's word. There is safety in no
other way, substance or patrician.
This amount with the above made $21.70. This money
$4.45 was raised.
was given the preachers of the day.
Closing remarks were made by the Recording Secretary, thanking the
Church and community for their generous hospitality, kind treatment and
solicitous preparation.
"God be with you till we meet again," was sung. Rev. D. L. Reed made
the closing prayer.
On to the First Baptist, Garland, is the Watchword.

Nevertheless, the spiritual growth has shown a marvelous increase,
due to the fact, that the leaders have worked with their people with a greater
degree of interest in Kingdom building than ever before. The Master's call
to the church and Sunday school is one The Church being the parent body
must keep in tact its interest in the young people. They are the future of
the Church. If we are to make progress spiritually, materially and educationally,
we must depend upen and see after wisdom from God, ere we

This is a day of scientific investigation^ Science one of the greatest
agencies God gave to man that man could better understand Him, and apply
himself to service in the right direction, arid behold, man has used it to
attack even the rights of God to be called the Creator of all things. They
deny his deity. They faintly attempt to deny the Virgin birth of His Son
Jesus.
Science attempts to refute the divine creation of man by offering
evolution as a progressive growth as scientific investigation claims the right
of discovery rather than credit God with the power of making man with
capabilities of improvement.
We believe that whatever man is now, the Creator put in him when He
made him, every power of adjustment, and that science itself is only one
of the endowments that our Creator blessed his creation with, and that after
all, man is coming into the higher state of his development because of his
race progress. When our Creator made the creeping things of the earth,
He first created man in His own image and likeness, and made He the animals after its kind. The monkey is today in the likeness it was first
created. It may have been trained to do some things that it could not do
then, but it remains a monkey on its four legs.
So -is man in the same
image and likeness he was first. He is educated and lifted higher, because
of his training, but he is nevertheless the same image of his' creation. If by
evolution man has developed to what he is today and that his original state
was that of a monkey, why are monkeys born monkeys still. It is time that
all monkeys were changed.
The modern idea is to set aside the divine idea and authority. As fundamentals we stand on the Word of God, and the fact that the creature cannot
explain away the power and thought of the Creator.
So let us forget these religious cranks and strive to enter in at the straight
gate. Your task is not whether the modernist is right or wrong, but to put
over the program of the great commission: Go ye therefore, teach all nations, baptize them, in the Name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy
Ghost, teaching them to observe all things whatsoever Christ commands,
and He said lo I will be with you until the world shall end. Amen.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. .1 recommend that we increase our interest in our institution, the Burgaw High School, My brethren and sisters, this is your school and must be
supported by you. The secondary schools are feeders to our Baptist higher
schools of training.
2nd. I recommend that after graduation at Burgaw, you go to Shaw University for higher training. Go there and get your degree, A.B., A.M., B.TH.,
B.Sl and D.D. Yes, don't stop shorter than a degree.
3rd. I recommend that we increase our donation from one hundred to one
hundred an dfifty dollars to our State work, that. we might become a more
determined factor in putting over the $47,000 drive for five years, and
thereby endow Shaw University with one hundred thousand dollars. Now let
entreat you that whatsoever is right, and whatsoever is good, and
whatsoever is true in what I have said. Think on these things.
W. H. MOORE, President.
Yours for the cause,
me

REPORT ON MISSIONS.
Brother President and Cc-wcrkers: We beg to report the following on Missions: After a careful consideration of the plans previously adopted we
find that instead of offering new plans, that we would encourage those already enacted. That each Sunday S'chcol will appoint from among itself
a Missionary who will have charge of all the mission money and see to it
that a collection be taken each Sunday and the same be reported to the
Convention annually. We further urge that the Pastor and Superintendent
will make themselves interested in Missions.

REPORT ON EDUCATION.
The Committee on Education submits the following report: The trained
and consecrated mind is a helpful instrument in Got education and evangelization cf mankind.
T o Churches and Sunday Schools led by educated
7
and consecrated men and women should be an example and a light for others
to follow.
We firmly believe that the time is at hand when both educated
laymen and ministers should place greater emphasis upon Christian education.
Since the Burgaw School is now an accredited High School we feel
18
that we should double our efforts and renew our resolutions as well as increase our contributions to supply its need that the school may be in a
position to continue to do its best work. We urge that the North East and
Cape Fear Sunday S'chool Convention put itself on record as giving the
school its moral and financial support.

REPORT ON DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENTS.
Mr. President, officers and members of the N. E. and Cape Fear SundaySchool Convention:
We, your Committee on District Superintendents, beg leave to make our
report:
Whereas, the death of Bro. T. E. Henry has occurred since our last sitting

services having been rendered. The Recording Secretary reported, pointing

Second Day
—Afternoon Session
Coming together at 2:40 P. M. President in the chair. Rev. Bell sang
"Glory to His Name." Rev. Silas Carr read a scripture lesson and offered
prayer. The choir sang "Leaning on Jesus." The proceedings of the morning session were read. By motion of Rev. Murray they were approved.
The Revs. F. E. Peterson, J. M. Jackson and Mrs. J. A. Lewis were introduced.
Rev. J. A. Lewis gave an impressive lecture on "Stewardship."
He used the words Personality, Talent, Calling, Influence, Opportunity,
Time and last, Substance, to better illustrate his subject. Get the person
and these other qualities should and will follow in the! order named. Don't
begin with money from a newly-made member an error or mistake too
prevalent. Another very explicit lecture on the Sunday School was given
by Rev. M. D. Dickson. He used a poor and fat cow as illustrations to
show the difference between a modern, and, too frequently, old type of
Sunday School. A poor school is one not cared for, diseased, mistreated,
underfed, not fed at all in most cases and one that kicks, knocks and
(k) complains.
A fat Sunday School is just, and mo're so, the opposite.
Revs. Goodman and A. H. Dixon lifted a collection of $5.30. A recess was
—
taken.
Second Day
—Evening Session
Beginning at 8:40 P. M. the following religious, pageant was presented
under the direction of Mrs. L. B. Pope: The following scenes were given:
"America," "In the Garden," "Tell me the Old, Old Story," "Let the Gospel
Light Shine Out," "Where Is My Wandering Boy Tonight," "Rock of
Ages," "Steal Away," "Bringing In the Sheaves^" Each scene was accompanied by a chorus of young men and women. The participants all rendered well each scene. The program was a new feature and one of the
most successful programs rendered by the young people. We hope next
session a large number of young people will come prepared to put over
our greatest program. Concluding the above a collection of $20.33 was
lifted.
Rev. McRae with Miss Lucile Murray, Rev. H. C. Dixon with Miss
Frances Newkirk were contestants. The former were the winners.

MINUTES OF THE NORTH EAST AND
Third
Day
—Morning Session
At 10:00 A. M. Saturday a memorable crowd, and still they came, had
assembled to witness the closing of the Convention. The choir sang, "He
Lifted Me." Bro. H. C. Dixon read Eph. 6. Prayer was offered by Rev.
C. T. Underwood. "But I Know of Whom I Believed" was rendered. Proceedings of Friday afternoon and night sessions were read and approved.
Some comments on the pastor's duty to the Sunday School were made by
the President and Rev. Underwood. The Committee on New Schools reported two: Mt. Calvary, Millard, N. C, and Oakey Grove, Winnabow, N. C,
approved for membership. Rev. I. M. Powers extended the hand of welcome to them. The Committees on Place, on Education, Temperance,
Obituary, made reports which were approved. Rev. I. M. Powers and Mrs.
F. A. Murray spoke of the life and work, as they knew them, of the late
Sister Pattie G. Shepherd.
The following District Superintendents read
their reports: E. W. Berry, F. K. Fennell, E. D. Powers, J. C. McQuillon,

winners of nice Bibles. An error or oversight caused us to give the prize
Bible belonging to Miss R. A. Gurganeous to another. Have purchased and
made satisfactory, we hope, amends to same.
The Committee on District Superintendents read its report. Some replacements and insertions, we believe and hope, for the better interest of
the Convention were made. At 12 M. Rev. McRae was presented to preach.
He did so', using as a text, Ex. 34, 29. Subject, "Unconscious Beauty."
He said, "Obedience to God and real service to man are what, other things
being equal, makes man beautiful. Outward beauty is not an index to inward purity. Just let your light shine." Rev. C. C. Crawford offered a

Education
We, your Committee on Education,
desire to
make the following
report:
Education is the standard by which true manhood and womanhood is
measured, because it is the process of developing and strengthening one's
powers so that he may occupy the greatest sphere of usefulness in life.
In this age of marvelous development and progress, both state and church
are calling for prepared men and women along all lines of human activities.
To this end we have the public school system, giving intellectual training,
both elementary and high school, as well as private schools, for which we
are duly thankful. For this reason there is little excuse for ignorance in
this our county.
We wish to recommend, first, that our people more extensively take
advantage of the opportunities that are theirs in this connection. Second,
since Burgaw Colored High School, the joy and hope of the people of this
section, offers splendid opportunities to colored youths desiring an education, we most heartily recommend that the colored people send their children to the Burgaw High School, where they may receive instruction, not
only in books, but also instruction along the lines of moral and ethical
living.

On to Mount Pisgah, Thursday, 10 A.M., before the fourth Sunday in
July, 1931. Who will be there? I (we) must work the works of Him that
sent me (us) while it is day; the night cometh when no man can work,
should be our determinate effort. Replenish your libraries, get more Bibles,
song books, Seek both old and young to come into the Sunday School. Get
or form the habit and it will remain. As often as ye go pay at least five
cents. This means $2.60 per year; one hundred pupils $260.00. We might,
can and should.
The envelope on each package of minutes contains the reports blanks and
Soliciting cards. Put the blanks in a safe place for use at the next Convention.
Give the cards to whom you have selected or others. See that a report is made. Bring or send any money up in denominations of $1.00, $5.00,
