Makybe Rise News
Principal’s Message
Dear Makybe Rise Families
The beautiful sunny weather provides so
many lovely opportunities for our families to
celebrate being a part of our Makybe Rise
community.
Thank you to all the staff and parents who
attended our recent swimming trials. The
evening was a great success and we are
looking forward to the interschool carnival.
Have you taken up the opportunity to stay
and supervise your children playing in our
early childhood playground after school? This
can be a great way to meet other parents and
your children’s friends. Parents are reminded
to closely supervise children to ensure
equipment is used safely and is well cared for.
Please see our flyer inside this newsletter.
Now is a good time to think ahead about
school jumpers for cooler weather. Our
uniform shop is open Monday afternoons and
Thursday mornings. You can also see the
canteen for our second-hand uniform stores.
Issue 3 Term 1
Thank you to all the parents who helped out
at our sausage sizzle fundraiser on Saturday.
All funds raised subsidise Year 6 end of year
activities.

Commencing Kindy in Room 1
The Kindy’s have commenced their adventure into their schooling life! It is amazing to reflect how far they have come in even a few short
weeks! We have loved seeing them se le into the school rou ne, start to make friends, and leap into learning new skills!
In Room 1 we have been learning about some useful skills that will help us to be successful at school. Children are becoming independent
at carrying their own school bags and ge ng ready for the day by taking out their lunchbox, drink bo le, library bag and shared fruit.
These basic organisa onal skills are a vital stepping stone into being an organised learner.
We have also been learning how to be a en ve listeners and have been focussing on whole body listening. Mr Potato Head helped us to
learn how to sit s ll with our legs crossed, our hands in our laps, to look at the speaker with our eyes, to listen with our ears and to make
sure our heart cares about what we are learning.
Outside play has been so much fun! Children have really enjoyed trying to master the flying fox, balance on the beams and explore water
play on our hot days! We are learning the school rules that help us to stay safe, and have been remembering not to climb up the slides or
to throw sand.
We have so much fun in Room 1 and it’s been great to see the children trying their hardest to tackle new tasks and ac vi es with
enthusiasm, effort and with the resilience to keep prac sing to get be er and be er!

A Busy Start in Room 31
We have such a busy start to the new school year here in Room 31. We have spent lots of me on ge ng to know each other and
learning how we can all cooperate and work well together this year to make it as fulfilling and successful as possible.
We all decided on a goal for the year. This helps us to focus on what we want to achieve in 2017. We will revisit this frequently
throughout the year to see how we are tracking. We also write our weekly goal into our diaries to ensure we are always striving to
improve. Our weekly reflec ons keep us accountable and help us evaluate our progress.
In HASS, we are learning about the first Australians. We are learning about when and how they first arrived here. We were surprised to
discover that Australia is really different now to what it was 40,000 years ago. We enjoyed learning how scien sts discovered Mungo
man and Mungo lady, and how their study of fossils and artefacts help us learn about the past. We would love if you could pay our class a
visit and look at our pictures of what Lake Mungo would have looked like 40,000 years ago.
