This topic allows students to learn and develop

Project 1 : ‘Cultural Study’
Students choose a culture to study.
Initially introduced to the work of artists
and craftspeople who are Australian,
African or Egyptian.
Using research methods students are to
find examples of imagery, icons,
lettering or pattern which clearly
illustrate the culture selected.
From the research students will produce
drawings and designs using a range of
media.
Based on the culture studied by each student
a series of personal responses will be made,
these will include
 A silk painting
 A relief piece - panel or frame
 A 3D model or construction
Completed work will be arranged in the form
of a resource board or altered book which
illustrates the culture.
Students will be taught skills and
processes using a variety of media
(including drawing, painting, print
making and 3-D).
Project 2: 'Man-made objects'
-Machines and Cogs
Students will be given images and real
examples of machine and engine parts;
from these drawings and other works will be
made using a range of black/white
(monochromatic) and colour
(polychromatic) media.
As a development from the studies 3d work
will be conducted. Modelling and
construction techniques will be taught and
students will create a model or sculpture
based on 'Machines and Cogs'.
Assessment and Exams
On-going progress is recorded based on sketchbook work and other supportive drawings, designs and models. As homeworks are set
and returned, these are assessed and recorded to inform progress to target. Students’ work is marked according to the exam-board
Assessment Objectives: ‘Developing Ideas’, ‘Using resources media and materials’, ‘ Recording Ideas and observations’ and ‘Making a
personal Response’.
Exam: In May an exam based on 'Man-made objects' will be set, this will be a drawing-based activity and will test students’ abilities to
observe and record from source materials provided.

materials.
