Week of May 15th Standards & Learning Objectives: • Students will analyze the cultural, political, and economic impact of a historical era on the literature of the time. • Students will compare past literary works and themes to the current play being read. • Students will consider literary elements such as: characterization, conflict, and symbolism.\ • Students will write to relate their ideas and opinions on different topics pertaining to a work. • Students will read non-fiction works and relate them to the current fiction work. Day Procedures Monday Students will continue to view/read A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry evaluating the cultural influence of Joseph Asagai and his Nigerian heritage. Students will use maps to locate various areas he mentions in his discussion with Beneatha and will look up other items pertaining to African culture.NUMEROLOGY: Students will number key points on the map as they pertain to places Asagai discusses with Beneatha Tuesday Evaluation Homework Daily grade on handout on African culture. Students will continue to My Hair – drawing/caricature view/read A Raisin in the Sun assignment by Lorraine Hansberry My Hair journal assignment evaluating Beneatha’s choice of cutting her hair. We will also watch a clip from the documentary “Good Hair” And a clip from the Oprah Winfrey show about the hair industry. Students will be asked to reflect on their own hairstyles and previous choices and what their hair says about them.
