Greek Myths Total Marks 50 30 Marks In the Beginning and Pandora’s Box ; Persephone and the Pomegranate Seeds; Daedalus and Icarus; Arachne the Spinner; King Midas ; Perseus; Theseus and the Minotaur; Jason and the Golden Fleece Section A Questions will assess students' knowledge and understanding of the novels and myths, and their response to the novels and myths A range of questions (multiple choice questions, short answer questions , long answer questions) will focus on: character development, characters' reactions to events/situations; interaction between characters significant events and situations in the novel importance of the opening of the novel, and stories; the ending of the novel, and stories, plot development themes: friendship; pride; vanity; greed; wisdom; family; war; bravery. Students’ response to characters, settings, titles, events, themes in the novels and stories writer's point of view writing in the role of a character POETRY SECTION B 20 Marks Range of questions will be set on one or two unseen poems. Questions will focus on : ideas and themes expressed in the poems; interpretation of poet's viewpoints comparison of ideas, themes, poets' viewpoints explanation of poetic features with evidence a) onomatopoeia, b) simile, c) metaphor, d) personification, e) alliteration , f) repetition students’ personal response and preferences with evidence and explanation. explanation of form and structure explanation with evidence of poet’s use of language to create images, descriptive and narrative effects.
