Brigadier General Jose Antonio Jarne was born in Zaragoza (Spain) on 12th June 1961.
He joined the Military Academy in 1979 and after completing the Mountain Troops Unit
Command course he was commissioned as an Engineer Officer with the rank of 1st Lieutenant
in 1984. His first assignment was the Engineer Battalion of the High Mountain Brigade in
Huesca, Central Pyrenees (Spain), where he commanded three different platoons. Promoted
to Captain in 1988, he remained in the same Battalion as Sapper Company Commander.
In 1993, after completing the “Routes of Communication Course” at the Engineer School, he
was assigned to the Engineer Command in Madrid. Being there, he deployed for six months
to Mozambique as a United Nations Military Observer. During this period, he also attended
the Engineer Company Commander Course at the Euro NATO Training Engineer Centre
(ENTEC) in Munich (Germany). In 1997, after graduating from the Spanish Army Staff College
and being promoted to Major, he was appointed as Chief of Staff of the War School in
Zaragoza (Spain). In 1999, he deployed to Sarajevo (Bosnia-Herzegovina) as a member of the
HQ SFOR CJ3 Division.
At the end of 2000, he took over the command of the Mountain Brigade Engineer Unit in
Huesca (Spain). In February 2002, he went to Kabul with the first Spanish troops deploying in
Afghanistan and commanded UINGISAF I.Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in July 2004 and
after a short tour at the Doctrine and Training Command in Granada (Spain), he was assigned
as Chief of Staff of the Mountain Brigade in Jaca (Spain), where he served until 2007. From
August 2007 to July 2010, he worked abroad at the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps (ARRC), in
Rheindahlen (Germany) as SO1 Host Nation Support within the Combat and Service Support
Division.
After coming back from Germany, he was assigned for one year to the Doctrine and Training
Command in Granada (Spain). During this period he deployed again to Bosnia- Herzegovina at
the NATO HQ Sarajevo as CJ5 Chief. Promoted to Colonel in July 2011, he attended the
Brigadier General Course. After its completion in December 2011, he took over the command
of the 8th Engineer Regiment in Melilla - a Spanish city in the North of Africa - where he
served for two years.
In January 2014, he was assigned as Chief of the Logistic Area within the Spanish Land Forces
HQ in Sevilla (Spain). Since 25 June 2015 he is the Deputy Chief of Staff Influence & Assistance
at HQ Eurocorps.
